Arkansas has good fans. They’ve seen some tough times and are still hanging in there. An underrated one. They get forgotten about because they’re isolated up there. I always loved SEC states like Arkansas where 99.9% of people who are from there are die hards for the team. People think it’s like that in LA but it’s not as much as arkansas. We have the saints. Their die hards take away from LSU imo. Pro fans and college fans don’t go together.

I would think Lsu should be #1. There is nothing else in the entire state but them, Saints, & the Pelicans.

But it’s probably Alabama with all their success is probably up there too. Again, little to no sports team, but they split their state with Auburn.

If we’re talking about fan bases made up of actual alumni then A&M would be the pick. Florida would be up there too.

Oh good grief! Why is it that you guys act like Bama grads aren't as passionate about our University as AU grads? I'm a member of national, local, and business alumni associations. Just because our alumni don't have 3 alumni stickers on the car, 4 logo magnets on the back bumper, bama logo hitch cover, and a University license plate doesn't mean we don't love the University

We don't travel very well in long distance bowl games. Unless Memphis or Dallas, it is hard for fans to plan for the future when you don't go the post season each year.

There’s always a decent amount of hogs fans in Baton Rouge when they play LSU. Out of all the west teams I would say the hogs are right up there as far as guest attendance goes.

Largest fanbase(s) will be TAMU/UF/UGA

Agreed, if we are talking size of fanbase. This is polled quite a bit in Florida, and about 25% of the state usually identifies as a Gator fan. That alone is somewhere around 5.5 million fans, a number larger than the number of people that live in most SEC states.

And that's just Florida, doesn't get into the fact the alumni base is huge and countrywide.

FWIW,

NCAA Fan Map

quote:

Like the other sets of maps, these were created using estimates of team support based on each team’s share of Facebook “likes” in a ZIP code.

One of our favorite parts of this project is that we didn't know what the results would be. If you'd asked us which team had the largest and farthest-flung following, we probably would have guessed Notre Dame. But Texas has the most ZIP codes, more than 7 percent of the nation’s, followed by Penn State and Florida.

LSU's fanbase is nowhere near as large as Alabama's, literally may be less than half the size. Also, when you put 2 teams tied for the #1 spot, the next ranked team should be #3, that's just day 1 stuff. Get it together

“Biggest” is a pointless measurement.

For “most passionate”, I’d argue that neither Bama nor LSU are at the top.
LSU fans are some of the biggest fair-weather fans there are. If Bama stops doing well every year, their fanbase would look a lot different as well.

Both of those are still near the top, but the fact that tiger stadium empties out the second LSU starts facing adversity, and the fact that 50% of the gump fanbase are bandwagonners that would switch fandoms at the drop of a hat precludes them from being #1 IMO.
Arkie or Auburn would probably be #1, but IDK - hard choice. South Carolina fans would have to be up there too.

In the past, I would have argued for Miss State, but the Mullen era has spoiled our younger fans and they get pretty apathetic when expectations aren’t met.

Florida and Vandy should both definitely be at the bottom - maybe right below Mizzou.

Honestly LSU's fan base is probably dwarfed by Alabama, UF, UGA and A&M. I wouldn't be surprised if Tennessee was bigger at some point in very recent history, but I could see the combo of a title for LSU and continued decline of TN ending that.

Passionate though, which is all LSU fans should really care about. It's not a huge school nor a huge state, so to have a much bigger fan base you'd need a lot of bandwagoners with little connection to the school (something I assume they're not that envious of).

Yes. Auburn luckily doesn’t have the running of the gumps crowd.

Dumbest post ever. Putting MSU and USC near the bottom tells me you’ve never left your moms basement. What a dumb arse post.

Btw, our fans are so into our sports they pack out our arena for womens hoops. And you’ve probably never been to an MSU baseball or Football game in Starkville. And USC fans are pretty much the same.

Again, stupid post without facts, just made up shite as you went along.

What some of you don't take into consideration is the amount of transients that are living in some of these states that don't give a shite or have any affiliation or loyalty towards and of the teams that are in the area they live in. Florida is a great example of this.

Lol, LSUs fanbase "dwarfed" by bama, uga, atm, and Florida? Man, you are a special kind of stupid.

LSUs fanbase is absolutely massive and isn't dwarfed by any other teams fanbase. Our fanbase is huge...and the most passionate in the country hands down. Ignorance abounds in this thread.
