Yeah, we will fall behind the Big East

All it takes is one conference and then watch the others

The NCAA is cooked, but the conferences aren’t cooked yet. Conferences declaring they will go their own way will have to have separate leagues.
It’s going the direction of either the P4 conferences banding together to form their own league.
Or just the SEC and Big 10 breaking away. Which is probably why Big 12 and ACC were quick to adopt similar policies.

Still have the problem of needing to be able to pass enforceable rules for this to work.

This isn’t great because the argument made in courts can be well, they had a chance to play NCAA ball again. Not just in the SEC. I could see some component of well SEC schools offered me more which could help, but overall if the goal is CFB again. They were given the opportunity.

The Big East isn’t a football conference. What opportunity are you talking about?

that's great - can't wait to see the pro players shine in the Big East basketball games in Nov Dec drawing attention from NBA scouts - and then leave school by Jan to return to the NBA after getting the contract they wanted all along -
those teams they leave should end up having great runs in March with student managers that fill the roster spot(s) after -

It was a rush to judgement by the SEC and others because they fell victim to the loud people on social media (like idiot SEC rant posters)
Once the 5/5 was announced AFTER players accounted for the draft, they needed to allow players back
Would have been extremely easy to make a rule saying “AFTER this season, players who go pro can’t play”
Just unbelievably easy. But they made a quick knee jerk reaction based on social media posts and podcasters and now they are in a mess for no reason

Why?
Someone was going to get screwed no matter what. Under your idea, the people being screwed just would have shifted from the 2022 athletes to the incoming freshman.
Because the 2022 people would have all been given eligibility after freshman had already signed. So they would then have been told they no longer had a roster spot as a 2022 player is now filing it. Or they chose a school due to available playing time, which would suddenly be gone because a 2022 is now returning.
No matter what someone was going to get screwed.

It isn’t about “being screwed” it’s about legal ramification of your actions. They retroactively named players eligible from the 5/5 class. Once they did that , picking and choosing certain players from that group after the fact as eligible is a nightmare , as we are seeing now

They're going to get a ton of basketball players, which is likely the motivation for this.
