Better than anyone Texas plays constantly by a wide fricking margin.
Oklahoma is in the conversation with anytime as best all time after Bama.
Texas has played OU 112 times. Texas’ all time record vs top 10 programs.. SOS & the SEC is pretty solid if not great.
Great programs but Tennessee is a tier drop down.

Darrell Royal, the Texas coaching legend was born in Hollis, Oklahoma and he graduated from OU, playing under the legendary OU coach Bud Wilkinson. Texas fans can't stand it.
Your program wouldn’t exist without players from our state.

Historically, Texas Longhorns vs. Tennessee Volunteers is a great matchup.

Jesus Christ you are mentally deranged to somehow turn a thread about Texas into an expose of your hatred of Bama.

Yea, uh... we did win the NC as the only team with a perfect record, thanks to Texas beating Alabama in the Orange Bowl.
Arkansas 11-0
Alabama 10-1
Texas 10-1

When I was growing up and a little kid (90's), I'd say Tennessee. Now, it's Texas. Historically, it's Texas as well.
When I was growing up in the 70's and 80's, I'd have said Texas in a landslide. Despite it's recent success, I still don't think Texas has ever returned to it's former glory as a national contender every year.

It’s Texas. But this guy has me thinking otherwise now.

Since the Longhorn Network was launched, all of their major men's teams have nosedived.

While Tennessee has 2 poll era national titles based on the major, most recognized selectors, they have 6 national championship worthy seasons.
1938 undefeated, #2, various selectors
1939 undefeated regular season, #2
1940 undefeated regular season, #4
1950 Head-to-Head over UK with same amount of losses makes TN have a better case for NC
1951 AP & UPI National Champion
1998 BCS & AP National Champion
Vols have had many great years. Historically they are a tradition rich and accomplished program, 2007 and back.
Texas is also a solid program over the years. 4 poll era national titles, with NC opportunities in 1977, 1983, 2008, 2009.
I’d give a slight edge to Tennessee, IMO. But, overall it’s close.
Generally speaking when having these debates, the National Championship count doesn’t become the deciding factor.
Georgia, LSU, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, Michigan, Clemson, Florida, Penn State, Washington, UCLA, Michigan State, Pittsburgh are great examples of long term success, and have consistently accomplished more such as conference titles, winning seasons, Bowl consistency, etc; but all have less poll era National Championships than Minnesota which has 4 AP titles; and the Gophers powerhouse status has been gone since the 60s. The teams above are better historically despite lesser recognized national titles.

In terms of raw numbers - which I am not going to look up - there probably isn’t much difference. But Texas clearly has more prestige.
But really, Texas is an underachiever and should be at least what Oklahoma is. Oklahoma has been siphoning Texas kids and consistently doing more with them than UT for decades.

That maybe, but
Alabama has 17 National Titles, 12 in the poll era
Texas has 4 National Tiles, all 4 in the poll era (3 in the 60's and one in 2005)
Honestly, if you were to ask a Texas fan if they would trade that series record for the National Title record they would trade in a heart beat.....
Besides, Alabama is the one with a winning record over every team they have played 10 or more times, not Texas....
Based on the records for teh two schools, Texas's program is a pale shadow of Alabama's
As it should be....

What is interesting is that the State of Texas has not won very many NC in their history. people say there is all that talent, yet the last 2 NC the State of Texas has won is 2005, 1970......
Just a partial list of States with two or more NC during that time, all with decent in state talent but not Texas level:
South Carolina
Alabama
Nebraska
Oklahoma
Louisiana
Indiana

It is overrated for actual production as a state for college football.

It's Texas. They are a legit blue blood, Tenn is just outside the club and moving further and further away. Through the 90s Tenn was almost Bama's equal regionally, but almost always gagged on the big stage, hence their 8-12 major bowl record, Neyland 3-6. Whereas, Bama usually came up big on the biggest stages, gave legitimacy to the South beginning in the 20s, etc. Since then Tenn has disappeared and Bama has reassumed its larger than life presence.
Btw, Texas does have 4 NCs, Tenn has only 2.
