Her family owns Smitty's on West Esplanade. Not fine dining but damn good Po Boys, shrimp, oysters, catfish, etc...

Also - Go to Central Grocery near the French Market. Order a half of a muffuletta sandwich. Don't eat it right away. Let the olive spread seep into the bread.
We used to pick them up on our way out of town headed back to Arkansas. We'd stop for lunch in the Battlefield Park in Vicksburg and crack open those sammiches. Make you smack your mama.

For something fancier, I like Commander's Palace and Brennan's.

Brennan’s for breakfast is awesome. Dakar, Lilette, Il Sumpremo or Pizza Delicious (plus several other spots) for great pizza (New Orleans has a great pizza scene), Emeril’s. Or St Germain for Michelin starred restaurants. Pigeon and Whale on Freret.
Some real garbage has been recommended by some of the lower IQ with pallets of a damn gutter punk hobo posters.

Still one of the oldest, and depending on qualifiers and definitions oldest.

commanders palace is a good eat. Or used to be. Grew up 30 mins out side of new orleans. Now i go to NOLA 2-4 times a yr sadly

You have to go to the Deanies in Bucktown by the lake.

Lucy's Retired Surfers bar on Tchoupitoulas St. is a fun spot. Get the "Shark Attack" for the theatrics.

The Krystal's on Bourbon Street got some bad reviews. I'd avoid that joint. Really left a bad taste in that one guy's mouth.
