You gotta walk way down Bourbon St past all the tourist attractions. Just keep walking. You'll know when you've made it.

The debris po-boy at Mother's is legit good. I get one every time I'm in New Orleans. With that said, everything else on the menu is mediocre at best and overpriced.
They do have a good early bird breakfast special. Quality isn't any better than what you would get at Waffle House, but with food prices today it's a really good breakfast deal.

In terms of best places to eat, I can't offer too much that hasn't already been offered. Since you're visiting, I'm assuming you want to stay fairly close to the CBD and French Quarter. My recommendations:
Food
Shrimp po-boy - Parkway Tavern (Though it's in Mid-City, it's worth a Lyft/Uber if needed)
Oyster po-boy - Johnny's
Roast Beef po-boy (1st choice) - Verti Marte (Or get their signature po-boy, All That Jazz)
Roast Beef po-boy (2nd choice) - Parkway Tavern again
Hot Muffaleta - Napoleon House (Far better than Central Grocery's hot muff)
Cold Muffaleta - Central Grocery
Charbroiled Oysters - Drago's
Raw Oysters - Felix (I also enjoy Superior Seafood if you get to the Garden District)
Gumbo - Gumbo Shop
Beignets
Smaller crispier beignets - Cafe Du Monde
Larger fluffier beignets - Cafe Beignet on Royal
I prefer Cafe Beignet on Royal as they are just as good as Cafe Du Monde, without the absolute line madness of Cafe Du Monde. If you can get out of the CBD and French Quarter, Cafe Du Monde in City Park is wonderful. Morning Call is also wonderful for beignets outside of the CBD and French Quarter.

Hurricane - Lafitte's
Sazerac - Carousel Bar at Monteleone
Monsoon - Port of Call
Vieux Carre - Also at the Carousel Bar at Monteleone

Hurricane from Lafitte’s was good. Monsoon from port of call was great! Definitely see why you don’t order more than one. Very potent. Thanks again for coming through
