Kansas City. It's all we've got.

There are 5-6 joints in the KC metro that are top notch and probably 5-6 that are decent, the rest are a crap shoot.

Some great BBQ in a couple of cities in Alabama. My personal favorites that I eat at are:

Tuscaloosa - Dreamland original location
Birmingham (Homewood) - Saws BBQ
Auburn - Butcher Paper BBQ or Chucks BBQ

This. I still think the best I’ve ever had was some oil drum bbq a man was cooking out in his front yard just outside of Tuskegee. He had to be in his 70s, but the pork would melt in your mouth. No longer there, unfortunately it seems like a lot of these places are disappearing.

I found Austin’s bbq to be shallow and pedantic.

Yeah no it isn’t unless you are trying to count Dreamland which is vastly overrated

Even as a Texan, the best I’ve ever had was in a small town about a hour east of Memphis.

Mcclards, never heard of it but instincts tell me that if I ride by a bbq place pronounced mick lards…..you bet your arse I’m stopping

We always pronounced it Mack Clards. It’s worth a try for sure.

That was the first job I got when I was 14 and got my social security card. Helped old man McClard keep the fire stoked and the beans stirred. Went to work before daylight and worked till the noon rush was over. The place was always packed with folks waiting. The McClards were really good people, a family business.

Rendezvous seems to have really gone downhill. The first time I ate there fifteen or twenty years ago I thought they had the best ribs I had ever eaten. And I grew up in Tuscaloosa and had there ribs before the old man died. But the last few times at Rendezvous have been a let down. Memphis as a whole is a let down. Rendezvous, Germantown Commisary, the former gas station place. The best ribs I have had in the last 10 years have been from the original Corkie’s.

As for Dreamland, it is now just Dreamland in name. Since the daughter inherited it, then the IRS took it, then the business group out of B’ham bought it they just sell barbecue. Nothing special. Dreamland doesn’t even have the best ribs in Tuscaloosa. Archibald’s > Dreamland.

And I have never had BBQ in Texas that I would cross the street for to get a second time with the exception of Heim’s burnt ends.

I don’t know what the best town is, but I bet the best isn’t listed. And it varies by the day based on the meat and who cooked/smoked it and how big a hurry they were in that particular day.

Didn’t like it. Drenching it in homage sauce doesn’t make it awesome.

There is a gas station out by the airport in Oxford that had some pretty amazing BBQ. It is attached to a bait shop. While all the sororitutes and frat bros are fighting for some shitty chicken on a stick, I will dominate everything that place has to offer.

What are some of the best places in Lockhart? Don’t know if I will ever get to do it but a Texas brisket tour is on my bucket list.

Nowhere else in TX (and probably the US) is there such a great cluster of top f'n notch BBQ joints in the same small town.

This. You want the best, stop in some place on hwy whatever in South Ga or
North AL that has a sign that says "Pit BBQ"...(no, a grill is not a pit).
It's the best you'll find usually. Get a side of fried green tomatoes and potato salad.

Oh all those look scrumptious.

I know it’s a hour away but I remember seeing Louie Mueller’s on DDD years ago although I know the old guy who Fieri talked to has since passed. That always struck me as a place I wanted to eat at.

Central
Germantown Commissary
Cozy Corner
Paynes
Interstate
BBQ Shop
Tops

In no particular order

Rendezvous is downtown so it’s the biggest tourist spot.
