I had no problem with Auburn moving on from Malzahn at the time.
The problem has been how Auburn has handled hiring coaches since letting him go. Hindsight is always 20/20

Malzahn was the perfect coach for Auburn. He liked to run the ball a lot. He led them to the occasional really good season. He was a smug, arrogant prick. And he was Alabama's kryptonite - he didn't always beat us, but he did sometimes. They should never have fired him.

Gus should’ve been appreciated more in his time. But, firing him wasn’t the problem. It’s the constant power struggle and egos that have caused the program to collapse.

I'll always respect what Gus did for AU. But his time was long past. It's the old "who moved my cheese?" situation. People thought UGA was insane to get rid of a coach that was wildly more successful than Gus, and look how that turned out. The problem is that the powers that be at AU can't stop tripping over their own dicks. AU is a place that you can win. Consider this:
Pat Dye- 11-1 1983, and 4 SEC championships
Bowden- 20-1-1 in his first 2 seasons
Tuberville- 33-5 in a three year stretch
Chizik 14-0 national title
Gus 12-2 national title runner up
So, the base is there and you can win big there as well, but something has to change with leadership.

Only 22 coaches beat saban at bama. Of those 22 only 7 didn’t get to a natty title during their coaching career. That was uL Monroe coach Charlie weatherby, Kevin sumlin, sly crooms, huepel, Hugh freeze Kyle whittingham, and mark richt.

it was time for us to move on - he got predictable, and could not sign a decent Oline to save his life, not to mention QB development was almost nothing.

I ran some numbers. I checked the records of all SEC schools starting with 2021 and ending with this week. I omitted OU and TX since they weren't in the league the whole time, so this will be a list of 14:
1) Georgia: 68-7, 37-3 (SEC) - 2 natties, 3 SEC titles, 4 playoff appearances.
2) Bama: 59-14, 34-7 (SEC) - 2 SEC titles, 3 playoff appearances, 3-4 post-season
3) Ole Miss: 55-15, 29-12 (SEC) - 1 playoff appearance, 4-3 post-season
4) Tennessee: 48-20, 24-16 (SEC) - 1 playoff, 2-3 post-season
5) LSU: 42-25, 23-18 (SEC) - 3-2 bowl record.
6) Mizzou: 44-24, 21-19 (SEC) - 2-3 bowl record
7) Texas A&M: 41-25, 22-19 (SEC) - 1 playoff appearance, 0-3 post-season
8) Carolina: 35-31, 16-25 (SEC) - 1-2 bowl record
9) Kentucky: 35-31, 15-27 (SEC) - 1-2 bowl record
10) Florida: 32-34, 15-26 (SEC) - 1-2 bowl record
11) MSU: 31-35, 11-30 (SEC) - 1-2 bowl record

Auburn is the only team not to have even one winning season. In fact, all the schools, except Florida, have had at least 2 winning seasons. Moreover, all schools (except UF and AU) have had 9 win seasons. Even lowly KY and Vandy both have had a 10 win season.
Auburn is tied with Vandy for only going to two bowls. Auburn and TAMU are the only schools not to win a bowl since 2021 (but TAMU did make it to the CFP). In fact, AU hasn't won a bowl since 2018 which is the longest winless streak in the SEC.
Conclusion:
AU has been (objectively) the worst football program in the SEC since Bryan Harsin was hired. I knew we were close to the bottom, but we're actually dead last in almost every category. This is despite AU being about 7th or so in NIL spending.

Their issue wasn't in firing Malzahn, it was having no plan of what to do after Malzahn.
