This movie was way better than I expected. I went in expecting another forgettable campy shark movie but damn, this one was a big surprise. Like halfway through it, I forgot the movie was supposed to be about sharks. I was taken aback by how serious the tone of the film was as I was expecting some fast paced cheese fest.
And the amount of character development they invested in each person was a surprise. I also loved how literally no one was shielded by plot armor. They did a great job making you think certain individuals would survive due to amount of development they invested... and then, nope.
Also need to add they took the Spielberg approach with the CGI by masking the plane crash in darkness so it didn't look like a total cartoon aside from a few minor shots. All around solid film. It definitely deserves more recognition than it's getting.
