I think that would be Andrew Jackson. Warts and all.

More were killed in Golliad than Alamo and pretty sure they fought to the death at the Alamo as they knew death would come anyway

I did a little more reading. Two of Shackelford’s sons were killed but he was spared by the Mexicans because of his medical skills. It absolutely should be more widely known and taught in American history.

Thanks. I’m sure John Wayne would be happy you believed in his movie.

Good call, and he doesn't have nearly all the warts woke revisionists want to assign to him.

Why did Santa Anna take only 2,000 men to the Alamo?

He only had 3 cars.

Tennesseans shouldn't claim Davy Crockett. He was born in the Free Republic of Franklin.

That’s not true. Old media guides definitely referenced the Alamo

Most of the volunteers from Tennessee at the Alamo were actually leaving Tennessee in search of a better life.

Can’t blame them. Tennessee sucks

I actually logged in to laugh at this. If not for N’Awlins, Louisiana would be New Jersey South. Red Stick would be Camden and Shreveport would be Bayonne.

The youngest defender at the Alamo was from
Alabama. Galba Fuqua would be forever sixteen when he
went down fighting.
Gentlemen, please remove your headgear as we listen
to his ballad (sure to jerk a tear from your eyeball):
THE BALLAD OF GALBA FUQUA

Thank you for his service.
He was a drunk who abandoned his wife, children, and responsibilities. He ended up in the right place.

The Smiths COULD have been the best band ever. The Clash IS the best band ever. Since Parliament Funkadelic descended from the cosmos instead of the Earth, I will give them the best universal band!

There wouldn’t be a Texas if it weren’t for Tennessee. No whorns, no aggies, no Texans, no Cowboys, hmm…

There are several posters in this thread whom I’m certain would be, or were, draft dodgers…you’ve rode the backs of angels your entire life.
