This is more R&B than funk, but I am old school. Nice beat and you can dance to it!
Mofak is Sally Green’s producer. This has grown on me the more I listen to it:
I call this neo-funk. There’s a French producer who is putting out some nice driving music funk. It’s not Funkadelic level, but it’s not dreck either:

This DEFINITELY ain’t AI. Bootsy is still putting out funk jams:

I don’t listen to country music as often as I used to, but this song by the Hag is on my Top 10 list:
Nice. If you’re including the last 2-3 years, I have some recs for this thread.

Retired since 2024. Wife passed away in 2023. I set my retirement up around making sure she didn’t have to work and still stay in our house if something happened to me.
My grief counselor asked me one question. “Barbara’s gone. Do you want to be the richest guy in the graveyard?” Once that statement established itself in my head, I don’t count dollars anymore. I have 9 months of living expenses in cash. Any amount extra either gets spent or goes to paying down my mortgage. Couldn’t be happier

As a Navy veteran, I can vouch for the Dutch. During my career, my favorite countries are as follows:
1. Israel. Work hard, party harder. Israel women must have a checklist for getting laid by Americans!
2. Greece. I could get away with making them 1 and 1A with the Israelis
3. The Netherlands. If you have a Southern accent, you can read the local phone book and still get laid.
4. France. In public, yeah, the stereotypes are pretty much justified. In private, their women LOVE Americans.
5. Spain. I love this country. I HATE their politicians with the fire of a thousand suns! I think I’m still on the permanent “no entry allowed” list. If I can ever enter Spain again, I’d love to go back to Torremolinos and Malaga! Eff Rota.
Italy, Great Britain, and Portugal are all honorable mention on my list. More good experiences than bad, and Italy is by far my most memorable experience. But there’s also enough bad to temper my fondest memories.

Army-Navy is my ultimate. But to answer the query, I enjoy going to Williams-Brice to see South Carolina vs Tennessee. Vols have won 3 times, Gamecocks twice out of the 5 times I was present. My absolute favorite, tho, is when SC State plays FAMU in Orangeburg. The battle of the bands is better than the actual game! The trash talk between the opposing fan bases is fun as well
This is 50 years old. I play it to this day. Still relevant in 2026.

My all timer is Illmatic. But my favorite under the radar album is Watermelon, Chicken, & Gritz by Nappy Roots. I have many many more, but this is on my mind as of right now
In my earlier post, I stated that my favorite changes by the day. Today is Tuesday, and I can’t think of a better Tuesday track than Tuesday Swings!
I heard this today on Sirius. I immediately changed the XM band back to broadcast radio! "Just a Friend", Biz Markie. It stands alone as the "song" I want to fill my ears with molten wax every time I hear it!
Not many singers have enough confidence to take on a cover of a cover. For a female artist to take on Luther Vandross requires vocal skills! But Lalah Hathaway does just that. For us Boomers, she’s Donny Hathaway’s daughter. And she made Luther AND her dad proud with this version. From 4:05 until the outro, the bass, horns, and the organ takes us to church:
I grew up listening to Motown, jazz, and the blues. THEN, I heard THIS, and while I’m still urban contemporary, part of me will always want to rock out!
I’m probably being pedantic…but can we really count King Crimson’s cover of Heroes if Robert Fripp played on Bowie’s original?
My choice changes by the day and the genre. Today is jazz fusion.

Im listening to this right now, and it might just be the sickest shite ever recorded. Dont know how ive never heard this before. Unfiltered, unrelenting, psychedelic voodoo jungle funk.
The genius of Miles was that he was fearless. He conceived something in Music and then he executed it. Most of the time it was great. I think “Dark Magus” was “Bitches Brew” on steroids, but man, I marvel to this day that Miles even conceived of that album! That was the album that jazz purists of the time just weren’t ready for. Today…yes, we can handle it!

Congratulations. The feminist movement has done well in emasculating you. I’m 65 years old and have been admiring attractive women for basically my entire life. When that day comes when I DON’T smile when I see a pretty woman, I’m expecting to see the Death Angel, and with the quickness. But if you want to deny your masculinity, that’s fine. Free will and all of that.

I'm looking for some help here. A few years back, I made an overt attempt to "get into" Miles Davis. It just didn't click. What are some good entry points to try again?
IF I was starting over with Miles, I would start with Birth of the Cool. He made his bones in the jazz world with bebop, but to me, bebop belongs to Charlie Parker and everyone else evolved from him.
Then I would move to Milestones BEFORE going to Kind of Blue. The wondrous thing about “ Kind of Blue” is that it’s an one off. That particular lineup never recorded together again with Miles. If you make it to this point, ask me again because there’s a couple of paths you can follow after Kind of Blue

I grew up with Kind of Blue. And it’s still one of my favorite Miles albums. But now that I’m older, I prefer Sketches of Spain more and more!
