Looks likes my son, who I had to drag out of bed every morning kicking and screaming to get to high school almost every morning, is going to not only graduate with honors from Bama but just got into graduate school and will be getting a Master’s degree. (He is still an LSU football fan, but is an Alabama basketball fan now)

His academic counselor is world class great, and she was even able to keep him on course with online classes when he stay home one semester to help me recover after cancer surgery, etc. Alabama has done an incredible job in not only recruiting tons of out of state students but giving a shite about their students and not only their academic progress but their well being. Not just my personal opinion but that of a lot of LSU alumni I know with bama kids as well as Mobile parents with kids at Bama.

I can also tell you from personal experience that Auburn, Texas and unfortunately LSU generally couldn’t care less. (Ole Miss is similar to Bama.)
STEM schools apparently pride themselves on being pricks, I don’t know what LSUs problem is.

Anyway, from a traditional Gump hater on this board, let me say a big “THANK YOU” to the University of Alabama. As a parent of a student I could not be happier with them.

People on this board love to downplay the University of Alabama but it really is a quality school and overall great college town. Congrats on your son's growth and success at Alabama.

Sounds like you're just trying to have an anchor baby into being an Alabama fan.

Congrats on his success, don't blame you for being proud.

I am glad your boy has had a nice experience at Alabama; good for him & good for you

I disagree with your assessment of Auburn; I've had one graduate and one is still there & we couldn't be more pleased

Yeah that may not have been fair to Auburn when I think back upon it. It was just a terrible match. I had to pay extra for tutors, etc everything but his counselor did try. That said some of those freshman classes were ridiculously and completely unnecessarily difficult, and based on theories that we were a long way from establishing. You don’t need shite like that in Freshman history.

It’s weird when your child goes somewhere else. I went to State and did my grad work at LSU. My firstborn went to Georgia Tech. I was jealous of the experience she got. The career center at Georgia Tech had multiple interviews setup for her. State and LSU would barely look over my resume.

My youngest is considering Arkansas and Ole Miss.

William Tate has done a phenomenal job at LSU. I know they’ve had record applications and record OOS kids which LSU needed badly.

For years LSU treated alumni and instate like shite, F King messed everything up. But I feel like Tate has reversed a lot of damage.

It’s just trendy to leave Louisiana because OOS schools like Arkansas, ole Miss and Alabama offer very favorable scholarships or at least waive OOS tuition.

Congrats on your son’s success.
You mentioned Ole Miss as being a great school also and I’d push back on that based on what I’ve heard.
I have extended family members kids who are Ole Miss students. According to them, professors rarely come to class. Most classes are taught by GA’s. Cheating is rampant and professors don’t really care about trying to keep students from cheating.
I think the 20-something year old GA teaching classes while professors do research is a common issue at a lot of schools.

Utter administrative incompetence.

I graduated in '90. I wouldn't send my kid to LSU today.

My experience at Ole Miss is based upon my time there before most of this board was born. Lol

So basically you're just happy Alabama is a degree factory interested in pumping up enrollment?

Mine mirrored yours. I was there in the 1990’s. My professors were very accessible and most of them were pretty personable. My advisors were there if I needed them. The career services for me weren’t the best back then, but then I was only a fair to middling college student, so it’s not like they were putting me on a pedestal.

Cheers to your son making high marks and making his dad proud!

Nice Work. Both of my kids are there and me and my wife graduated from there including UA Law school. It’s an excellent Education. Welcome Aboard.
