Florida's huge advantage over South Carolina is the in-state talent

I am aware of the talent coming out of the state of florida, I live here. If UF had a near monopoly on the top talent in the state, then maybe. But as you point out SC among dozens of other schools both in and out of florida are also pulling players from the state.

Heck the quote even admits their rival at the time (not sure if it’s UGA or FSU here) was a machine. Those schools compete for the same players so damaging any sort of advantage they had and UF still won. So I don’t really buy this argument.

Total agreement. College today is what NFL was decades ago. Changes NFL made created more competitive and entertaining product. Sundays have become mandatory, saturdays are optional based on schedule.

Arkansas has very good fan support and currently has four top 100 recruits committed, the latest being one of the top CBs out of Texas.

Mizzou was AP #1 at the end of a regular season once in my lifetime. Its a longshot but could happen.

I wouldn't put South Carolina and Ole Miss in the no shot category.

A problem I’ve noticed with teams like State and Ole Miss is that they can often recruit really well at one position but not across the board.

State has had a pretty amazing run of DL talent over the years. But Dak is the only NFL quarterback they’ve had in decades, and it’s been a LONG time since they’ve even had a WR drafted.

Ole Miss has put WR after WR in the NFL but has been very lacking on the defensive side.

You have to have top end talent on both sides of the ball and it’s a rarity for that to happen unless you are one of the elites.

You also have to have quality depth and in the era of the portal and NIL you have to now keep talent across the board and quality depth. UGA has won 2 nattys in a row based largely on talent and quality depth...ask Ohio State and Alabama both about how an injury kept them from beating the brakes off the Dawgs....they will hold forth on their bad luck or UGA cheating for hours...but what really happened in both instances is they had a talented team but could not match UGA in quality depth. Playing the SEC CG and 2 quality opponents in playoff games AFTER playing a SEC schedule is a war of attrition...you gotta be 3 deep across the board with quality depth. Lots of teams with great talented 1s. Fewers with highly talented 1s and 2s. Almost no one has 3s that can step in and look like a 1 on most teams.

Missouri, for example, came close to playing in a national championship game in recent memory. 2007? They were a win away.

But, here's the thing, I think it'll actually get harder for teams in this tier to win an NC now that the playoffs expand to 12 teams. They'd have to win 3-4 games against the toughest competition in the playoffs, as opposed to riding a Big 12 regular season to a winner take all game.

The CoMo weather in December could be a deciding factor in a playoff game.

LSU or Auburn would be safe bets I'd think.

NO SHOT

That's what your mother told me at first ... but look what happened.

Genuinely curious as to whether these fan bases operate under the auspices of delusion or if they deep down know that their program is not a true N.C. type program but can’t admit it here.

The only thing you're "genuinely curious" about is whether or not to put a gerbal or peen deep up your ponderosa.

Here's when SC will win a NC. As our population continues to grow by leaps and bounds, our instate talent pool grows along with it ... eventually we will win one. Not in my lifetime but within the next few decades.

The amount of homoerotica you post is staggering. It’s 2023. It’s ok to be gay. Seek help.

If you consider that "homoerotica" ... well, lulz, that's telling. Project much? Dude. Lulz

BTW, I talk about mothers, like yours, but I bet you can't find any "homoerotica" by me ... please share "the amount" you referenced.

I'm still lulzing that you think him being curious about a gerbil and peen up his ponderosa is homoerotic.

I guess what they say about so many of you horns fans is true. Austin really is the San Fran of the Southwest, apparently.

So I agree that UF has the advantage there, but the comment I never could get MetroGator to tell us what what advantages UF has that SC wouldnt. That was his original comment about it and I think it took us all by surprise because the answer is none. UF has the UF recruiting advantage, but SC is close enough that we can pull guys out of there. Several teams do. Again if SC wins enough they can start to pull guys from a lot of places like Clemson seems to.

With that said, the winning consistently part has to come first, but a good coach who can recruit can change any program.

It everything is already predetermined then why play these games? They are better off not playing at all since they are told it is just a waste of money.

If certain programs are stuck in the mud and can't do better then why be fans if you already know that you will never get better?

A defeatist attitude is a killer and why bother being a fan of college football if you keep telling yourself it will never happen.

I believe the OP’s point is this is your ceiling. I am not one to say some programs do not have a shot. Just interpreting his op the way I understand it.

This is so stupid. The smaller schools have a harder time no doubt but every team in the SEC can win a championship because of the league we play in. Ole Miss had good runs and can have them again. State didn’t emphasize athletics until about 25 - 30 years ago and has not been god awful like they were for decades. South Cacalacky could do it as well as they showed when Spurrier was there. I hate corn dog fans

I would, in the past agree with you. However, where as in the BCS and especially the 4 team playoffs, certain programs; honestly have to do a lot more than others to get in.

The new 12 teams opens that up; they have a shot. It will be difficult to win 3 straight; however you never know when a team won’t “show” up or have injuries that could affect a game by the quick turn around.

Maybe a team gets hot, there’s an upset and you get a good draw.

There is a chance though.

While I do think there are teams that won't ever win, you really can't rule out any team from the SEC (or any surviving P5 conference).

Oregon- they've lost their luster, but you'd be crazy to completely rule them out. That's a dangerous program. And yet, I'm old enough to remember them being creampuffs.

That's the key- expanding the playoffs gives you a chance that a HOT team gets in, instead of just the 4 teams that had the steadiest seasons.

Couple examples- LSU 2001. This was an 8-3 regular season team. Caught fire about midseason, as evidenced by 500 yds passing at Bama. Beat Tennessee in Atlanta, won the Sugar. Best team in the country? No, that would have been Miami. But they'd have scared anyone late.

Also, South Carolina last year. Blah, boringly average team; out of nowhere they smoked Tennessee. One hit wonder? They followed that up by beating Clemson on the road.

Yes, they lost to Notre Dame in the bowl, but for awhile they looked like they would win... that's the type of team that one day WILL win the playoffs. They will somehow squeak in, and THEN go on a run like that, in the postseason.
