Ironically the 12 team playoff will create an even a larger gap between the haves and have nots.

How do you figure? more games will always equal more chaos

A cinderella team will have to win 4 games instead of just 2.

absolutely we could. Spurrier brought us 3 11 win seasons. If the man is 20 years younger thats possibly us instead of Clemson in 2016.

Not to mention Clemson didn’t win shite until Spurrier retired. The head ball coach owned Dabo.

LSU had a loaded 2019 squad. Wasn’t just Burrow.

That is my point. Burrow transferring in helped make them a lot better team. Do they win the championship without Burrow? They only beat Auburn by 3, Bama by 5, and Texas by 7.

They had a really good team, so they might have

And the top 4 have to win 3 games instead of 2. The bye is an advantage but the playoff is getting tougher to win for everyone, not just the little guys.

Right, but the little guys will never have the depth to match the Bamas and UGAs and Ohio Sts of the world. And this isn't basketball where experience and a couple of players can overcome a massive talent disparity.

That’s where I’d disagree slightly. First I am still unsure how the current NIL/portal situation will play out regarding the ability of teams to concentrate and retain talent, too early to see.

I do think though that the rich get richer in the sense that there really are only 2 or 3 great teams every season and in all likely good those are the teams in the final, the extra games just draw it out. But who are those 2 or 3 teams could and likely will change over time.

I'm not saying the 12 seed is going to make the title game every year, but it would be naive to think there wont be upsets. Overall one seeds are winning the CFP at a .333 rate. Do you expect that to go up or down once they have to play an extra game?

I don't care about seeding. Look at the talent composite and amount of blue chip recruits for all the CFP winners.

Exactly, upsets may happen but in all likelihood the teams that would have been the winner in the 4 team or bcs formats will win the 12.

I'm not saying the talent isn't consolidated, it always has been, and there have still always been upsets.

And starting next year a cinderella will have to pull 4 upsets instead of just 2.

Side note, we may want to define Cinderella for CFB. Had there been a 12 team playoff last year and Tenn got in would they be a Cinderella? How about Clemson, they were around 11 and 12 in the poll after the last week of the regular season.

I would say any team without a CFP or BCS title game appearance is probably a Cinderella

That works, but I’d add they need to be ranked 6-12 as well.

I think this sums up my confusion. You won inspite of a lot of disadvantages so what were the advantages you are referring to?

Like I’m not trying to troll here, I really do not get what these advantages are.
Florida's huge advantage over South Carolina is the in-state talent. High level, in very large numbers. It's one of a very few schools that could be top 5, without ever dipping outside it's home state... and that's with a couple more P5 programs in the state operating at a high level.
In theory, USC (Southern Cal), and Texas could also do that. Potentially LSU and UGA.

SC needs to land a few Ga and Fla guys every year.
