Nebraska's sellout streak started in 1962, not the '80s. That's 60 years of sellouts. I think it's at 380-something games.

But yes, it's very much based on success until recently. 1962 also happens to be Bob Devaney's first year when they instantly got really good after two or three decades of sucking.

The streak was in jeopardy when they hosted Fordham in an 11am game last year, and a couple of donors bought the unsold tickets and gave them away to keep the streak alive.

In the SEC the most fair weather are UT fans.

Just check their attendance in down years.

Most loyal in the SEC? I could make an argument for the Barn. It's almost culty.

Nobody is going top Nebraska for loyalty. Not even Notre Dame.

It really is a religion for the Children of the Corn.

I'd give Arkansas at least a nod in the SEC (though USC has amazingly loyal fans). I'm not saying our numbers didn't dip... they absolutely did... but we survived John L. Smith, Bert, and Chad Morris.

Making it through that and still being a fan means you are Really a Fan. Or you are a masochist. Possibly both.

Miami has the biggest fair weather fans but USC (the surfer version) is fighting them tooth and nail. In the SEC, well, I hate to say it, but yeah... its Alabama.

I'm not saying the Tide doesn't have ride or die fans, they do. But there are a lot of fans that became fans only after the run of success started.

Alabama has more ride or die fans that anybody in the SEC. The 90s and early 2000s made that abundantly clear.

In 2004 Alabama had no real reason to expect anything more than 8-4 or so and the previous 7 seasons went

1997 : 4-7
1998 : 7-5
1999 : 10-3
2000 : 3-8
2001 : 7-5
2002 : 10-3 (coach leaves, crippling probation given, 2nd coach fired before season)
2003 : 4-9

The program was a laughingstock. And yet, we had 90%+ capacity in every home game. 98%+ in every SEC home game. We then sold out the Music City Bowl against Minnesota after going 6-5.

Any post-2009 excess is just that, excess.

Most loyal? Vanderbilt.

It takes a lot of inner fortitude to watch this program for 50+ years.

I think they had a booster that would buy up all remaining tickets before each game.

Nebraska - Most Loyal. Its crazy. They have sucked for years but still pack the house.

Fair Weather - Alabama (their fans hate life and everyone in it, if they "only" have a 10 win season)

1. Nebraska easily the most loyal.

Fair weather- I want to say Miami but they never really support them when they win either. In the days of the U they drew like an average of 33K. The famous Doug Flutie hail mary game only had about 30K.

I'd go with UCLA. Back when Terry Donahue was coaching and they had the Troy Aikmans, Freeman McNeils, JJ Stokes types they had big crowds. The 1988 USC game drew 103K to the Rose Bowl. Chip Kelly's teams have cracked 60K once in his tenure against Fresno and only drew 52K when Oklahoma came.

What does that have to do with being fairweather? Being grumpy about everything but still going every Saturday and caring isn't fairweather, it's just spoiled.
