OT: Ole Miss fans thoughts about Dan Mullen?

With the benefit of hindsight and maturity, I don’t hate him as much as I did back when I was younger.

When took over State their program was on life support and the one thing he could latch on to to drive passionate fans to action was shite talking “the school up north”. We had just beaten the shite out of them, beaten 11-1 Texas Tech and everyone was talking about us being a national title contender with a Heisman level QB that could be a top 5 pick.

His schtick worked because it got under our fanbase’s skin and their fanbase ate it up. It all got shot into the stratosphere when they beat us in 2009 and he said on the Jumbotron after the game “there’s only one program in this state that’s on the rise and it’s here in Starkville.” Then there was also the video of him in the locker room saying they were never going to lose to us again.

He did what he had to do but it made the rivalry toxic as frick especially after Freeze was hired and we started beating them.

He’s a really good coach and I don’t think he truly hates or dislikes Ole Miss in any way like Sherrill did. Leach and Kiffin did an incredible job coming in and making things not toxic. I don’t know if they just didn’t care or if the administrators at both schools told them “hey it’s a rivalry but shite needs to cool down a little”.

frick him. I don’t hate him at the same level I do the bastard in red stick, but I do not like him at all. Also think he’s extremely overrated as a head coach.

He acted like a huge fig when we beat them during the Feed Moncrief game and afterwards. He loved talking that shite when they were winning but when turnabout is fair play, he folded like the hump backed bitch he is really.

He was an excellent coach for Schtate. He beat teams he should have beaten, something their fans never took for granted, but didn't really beat a lot of teams he wasn't supposed to. That's enough for you to be a legend there.

I'll also give him some credit in that he recruited Mississippi quite well.

Mullen came into State during a time where their fanbase (and support) was at an all time low. He brought his "The School Up North" schtick in order to elicit some type of emotion out of the fanbase to get them interested again by using their hatred of anything Ole Miss - and it worked. However, it bred a fanbase that actually hated Ole Miss more than they supported State. That turned into a very toxic rivalry. Hell, there's even a state board that has/had an entire board dedicated to trying to bring down Ole Miss.

As a coach, his offense was good if he had the right pieces. He's an average HC, but nothing special. He had a tendency to throw his players and coaches under the bus and never took any blame (not sure if he's still doing that). Dude was a douche - no clue if he has changed.

Don't forget Leo Lewis, who took money from both sides, then decided to go State. Then Mullen talked him into turning in Ole Miss to the NCAA.

Only wrinkle is that Leo wasn't smart enough to keep receipts. So he signed an affidavit saying that he got money from Allen Smith (slimeball extraordinaire) to go to Ole Miss. And attested to the times and places where these brown bag handoffs occurred.

Except Smith could prove through court appearances and credit card receipts that he was somewhere else whenever Leo said he was giving him money in Brookhaven.

A small detail that probably saved us from getting the Death Penalty.
