wasn’t there some frickery with jones recruitment in hs? Cousin eddie and the cow cult paid off his hs coach to not let us come in and speak to him. Or am i completely misremembering that time period?
Obviously he got paid to go to state; but if im not mistaken he basically insinuated in the last year or two that he wished he had gone to OM? I think it was on manningcast or something.

I am nearly positive we would’ve won a national championship at some point under freeze had he signed in that 13 class

F Mullen. He ran to the NCAA once Freeze started kicking his arse.

The only reason we had a shot in the first place is that his coach was screening every school’s recruiters and recruiting material except for State’s. When CJ found out that’s when he got pissed and came on that late January visit with Laquon and the boys. Mullen did what he had to do to secure him as the best or at worst second best recruit in that cycle.

And we wouldn’t have won any with freeze because his offense fricked us in the most inopportune times

Eh. 2015 Arkansas and Florida aren’t really on the offense

Florida we only scored ten points dude

Arkansas yeah that’s 100% on the defense. Bert always shredded our defense

ETA: although 4th and 25 is completely on the defense

idk, I think adding a second year CJ to the number 1 scoring defense in America would have made us even nastier. I don’t think Bo would’ve won us a natty, but he had big game experience so who knows what he could’ve pulled off in the CFP.

But yes, you are right about freeze. His offense could be the most mind numbing, soul destroying thing in existence one half and then top 5 in America the next.

We had a similar dynamic with UGA. It was very toxic during the Mullen era, the also were trying to exorcise the 1980 demons which they did and mullen’s limp dick recruiting letting Kirby cherry pick elite players from Florida while locking GA down played a part

Florida sucks now as bad as State and we have some fans saying we should hire Mullen back lol

sorry for bringing up a sore subject, I wasn’t here during that era and never had a chance to talk to many ole
Miss fans about it, but I’ve seen when State fans said when UF hired Dan away from them and everything they said about him was 100% right. We’ve told UNLV fans what it was like and he’s following the same playbook there.

I have no fond memories of that era of Ole Miss football. The online community was absolutely unbearable and the general feeling in the state and amongst the public was just hate and distain. He fed pure hate pollution to the state fan base and it sucked. I get the rivalry and it's bitter, but it should have never reached the level that Dan Mullen created, nor should it ever return to this.

The vibe Mike Leach brought was just a breath of fresh air and I welcomed it. I'm thankful Kiffin and Leach had a prior relationship to meeting up again in the SEC and that it was built on respect.

Dan Mullen can go frick himself for all I care.

edit: I should clarify my initial statement. I mean no fond memories of the games with State.

Now that's interesting. I know it's a big rivalry, Florida-Georgia, but I never realized it got as toxic as Mullin-Freeze.

Well I don’t know if it got as bad as the Egg Bowl under those two but it did get extremely toxic in a way I hadn’t seen before. It’s been a pretty heated rivalry, particularly in 2007-08 with the UGA field celebration and then urban using his time outs during the end of the game up 49-10, but yeah Mullen did something to really trigger the Georgia fan base and they really hated him obsessively that I don’t even think they hated Urban.

and the TD to make it 10 was scored with about 4 min left in the game when it was 38-3. Our defense was pretty elite that year but your offense didn’t show up that evening.

That was just one of those nightmare games where everything goes wrong on the road and the swamp was fired up that night as we had just pulled a miracle win against Tennessee like a week or two before and was like 4-0 or 5-0 for the first time in a while.

I think you guys just beat bama the second year in a row too and might’ve been hungover from that one

Will Grier had failed a drug test but had appealed and went like 23-27 for 300 yards and 3 TDs. When we scored that garbage time TD our receiver flexed like he had done something that was when I started drunkenly DMing Freeze telling how much I hated him

Dan Mullen was the Mark Richt of Florida. The only difference is UGA actually made a good hire after they ran Mark Richt out of town.

Florida beat us like we stole something from them that night. Freeze was always good for at least one of those per year - inexplicable losses.

2012 - 35 point loss to a 9-win Texas in Oxford
2013 - shutout 25-0 by Bama in Tuscaloosa (we averaged 30 points per game and couldn't score a point)
2014 - shutout 30-0 by a 7-win Arkansas in Fayetteville; 39-point destruction by TCU in the Peach Bowl
2015 - Up 14-0, letting Memphis outscore us 37-10 to lose on the road; aforementioned 38-3 arse kicking by the Gators in the Swamp
2016 - squander a 15-point lead to Florida State; squander a 21-point lead to Alabama (in Oxford); three touchdown loss to Derek fricking Mason and Vanderbilt; 35 point loss to a 6-7 Schtate team in Vaught Hemingway (Dawgs had 457 rushing yards)

Richt at least won the SEC at least once and I think maybe twice.

He also stabilized UGA and gave Kirby a good foundation to make it elite

At that time we couldn’t beat FSU to save our lives.

From 2010-17 we only beat them once in 2012, and I had to vicariously root for other teams to beat them.

Watching freeze blow that game was frustrating, but thankfully Lamar Jackson started his Heisman campaign against the Clowns a few weeks later and put up 63 points on them.
