Well we do know that the violent crime rate is over 363% higher than Chicago.

Memphis has a bad crime problem in parts of the city you'd likely have no reason to visit and in areas a good distance from the core. Geographically, Memphis is a large city, so if you were in Laurelwood or near Shady Grove Rd., you'd be a long way from the hot spots. Central Gardens, Chickasaw Gardens and other areas are very nice.

Otherwise, there's a lot of wealth in Memphis. Multiple corporate headquarters, St. Jude, beautiful churches and great parks.

I’m in that number as well. New Orleans has its issues too, but I can be anywhere in town at almost anytime of day within 15 minutes.

great parks.

Shelby Farms is badass. When I lived up near there, I would go to that massive dog park often.

Sounds like you need to spend some time in West AL if you're calling Demopolis a city

Greene County is home and is God's country

I grew up across the Tombigbee in Sumter County but my dad was from Greene County. Was in Woods and Water in Tuscaloosa over the weekend and noticed there's a new clothing line named GreeneCo. They're a little proud of their products but not quite as much as Tom Beckbe.

Eutaw is where I was born. My Mom grew up in Boligee on the Tombigbee; we still own land in Boligee on the river. Ate at Diamon Jim's in Livingston a few weeks ago when I was in Eutaw visiting.

Very familiar with Boligee. When I was a student at Alabama, I organized a group of my fraternity brothers to gather palmetto leaves from the swamps there to use for our spring party. They still do the same except now it's a bunch of Yankees from NJ, NY and Mass making the trip.

I love Diamond Jim's but it's not the same since Miss Donna left us. She always made sure to give my mom a slice a caramel cake when she ate there.

By what metric defines "worse"? Murders? Cause Birmingham averages over 100 homicides a year. Montgomery hovers around 40-50. Of course, Birmingham has nicer areas. Vestavia and Mountain Brook are nicer than Pike Rd/East Montgomery.

Birmingham has three to four times the population, though, so Montgomery having half as many murders is not the gotcha you think it is. Montgomery is basically Birmingham with all the nice parts removed.

Jackson doesn’t even have potable water. Easily #1.

The surrounding Jackson area (madison, ridgeland, flowood, Clinton Brandon) is pretty nice and growing. Jackson has its fair share of issues like any city nowadays.

If I-55 runs through your city it’s a shite hole.
Madison and Ridgeland beg to differ, .Brookhaven, McComb, Grenada, and the Desoto County towns are fine. And that's just Mississippi.

No Birmingham?

All three of my kids grew up in Texas, went to the University of Alabama and loved Birmingham so much they moved and stayed here. Before they made that decision, my wife insisted we relocate here after I retire. Multiple family members of hers from Colorado Springs have visited and have expressed an interest in moving here. Foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, great road system, lots of wealthy suburbs, heavily forested region with lots of local parks, the largest state park in Alabama, 38 golf courses, near large lakes, etc. I have my choice of local sporting events and festivals every weekend. You can’t base your opinion on the one time you drove through and accidentally stopped to get gas at night in Fairfield.

Jackson is the shittiest city in the south. I hate stopping for gas there.
Stopped at a Love’s there one time while traveling back from TX. A car pulled ahead of me getting out of the parking lot and then tried coming to a full stop in front of me on the ramp. Booked it back the other way and got back on the eastbound side two miles further back. Have not traveled without my firearm since.
