Why do people think Alabama would let Texas act like they run the SEC if they got in.

They aren't moving the SEC offices out of Alabama. They aren't replacing the staff with Texas alum. Texas would be in for a rude awakening if they joined the SEC. The college football world doesn't revolve around them. Certainly not in the SEC

Ohio State and Notre Dame are the only programs in the country that could go toe-to-toe with Alabama in terms of influence as members of the SEC. Texas/OU, while behemoths, just don't have "it."

Yeah, I just don't think Texas would have nearly the same pull.

Sounds like what the Big 8 said in the 90s. Good luck.

That’s what Nebraska said…

There’s enough power to keep them at bay. But nobody wants to deal with their bullshite when they try. And they’ll absolutely try.
It’ll start with them wanting to keep the Longhorn Network. Wanting the SEC Basketball Tournament in Texas in the rotation. And so on. Then they’ll try to upset the balance of even bowl shares. And TV market shares.
Why deal with that when you can extend an invite to a host of other teams that are far less of a headache?

It’s not just about football. Y’all need to do your homework.

Half the fun would be watching them bump heads. Texas being put in their place a bit is going to be great as well. They will be vindictive little bitches about it every step of the way too. It's going to be great.

Meh, the way the SEC is structured, Texas, nor anyone else, would ever weild anywhere near the influence Texas has over the Big 12. That's kind of what the OP is referring to.

No shot. Bama is bama and this is still the south. Love them or hate them, they have a lot of power within the conference and if Texas thinks they’re going to change that they’re soundly mistaken IMO.
ETA: this is not the big 12. The other member teams like LSU, auburn, Florida, Georgia would never let it get to that point.

this is a lot like when a girl starts dating a guy and her friends tell her he's a creep and she says "no, he's so nice!". A year later they are broken up because he's a creep.
Or someone calls you and wants to know what you think about going into a business partnership with a guy you dealt with in the past. You tell, then do what you want but he's a royal pain in the arse to deal with. A year later the partnership is failing and your friend is trying to get out without losing his shirt...because the guy IS a pain in the arse to deal with.
You can either take the advice of those with past experience with a partner or you can learn the hard way on your own.
But why would you want to go into partnership with someone who has repeated red flags?

Because you castrate them right out the gate...
When they try you tell them no...if they don't like it they can go join the PAC or go independent...
Unlike the Big XII, the SEC teams are not quaking in their boots begging Texas and OU to stay to keep the conference together...
With Texas and OU asking to join the SEC, they need us, we don't need them...

You aren’t familiar with their playbook so let me enlighten you.
tu isn’t used to playing second fiddle to anyone when it comes to in conference hierarchy. If a program is gaining momentum then they do the following:
1. Investigate their recruiting process
2. Look for inside program information
3. Once they find something, and they often do, pass it off to journalists so that it blows up in news and social media
4. Create narrative that they are the clean program and thank god they have joined the SEC so that they can bring a more ethical approach to college athletics in a conference where it has been lacking
5. Reference any and all violations or accusations of violations in media reports to validate step 4
6. Eventually crown tu as darling and superior of conference over the “redneck southerners” that have been running things
7. Rinse, dry and repeat as Ling as it takes until they are viewed as being in the conference drivers seat
You don’t have to believe me. Ask 1980’s SMU, late 80’s/early 90’s Arkansas, 90’s A&M. It’s just what they do and they just can’t help themselves.
And again, speaking for myself and I believe most Aggies, we aren’t afraid of the athletic competition. We are afraid of their toxicity and inserting their drama into a conference that is doing just fine right now.

I cant remember which thread but what struck me as interesting was somebody pointing out that TX would buddy up to/bully the Arkys, MS schools etc and sway votes their way by doing that. Dont quite know how they would do that but an interesting thought.
