Should have been Michigan, Washington, Alabama, FSU.

Mizzou is comfortably middle class in the SEC. Also, Mizzou is comfortably an odd duck in the SEC.
When we talk trash and beat your SEC rivals, it's funny. When we thump our chest with a crootin' win, it's silly. I know it. You know it. We all know it.
TAMU is bizarre. It spends money like it's hot sh!t, but doesn't have the corresponding success. A touch more Texan arrogance and a touch less humility.

re: East continues to own the West

One night the SEC West dreamed it was walking along the beach with the SEC East. Many scenes from the SEC West's life flashed across the sky.
In each scene the SEC West noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints. Other times there were one set of footprints. This bothered the SEC West because it noticed that during the 2023 season when the SEC West was suffering from anguish, sorrow, or defeat, it could see only one set of footprints.
So the SEC West said to the SEC East, "You promised me, SEC East, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I noticed that during the 2023 season there have only been one set of prints in the sand. Why, when I have needed you most, you have not been there for me?"
The SEC East replied, "The times when you have seen only one set of footprints is when I carried you."

We're building the "Taliban" of football programs.
Salaam alaikum, my Missouri brothers and sisters.

If the seat is hot, it's because an OU fan farted on it after today's crootin win.
re: SEC versus BIG - Who won expansion since 2010?

Someone mentioned that exactly, like $40 million one time donation. But still better than expected if it's normally hanging around UNC.

LINK /
That link ranks programs by revenue EXCLUDING things like media payouts, playoff payouts, and institutional support so it's more of an apples to apples comparison across conferences and teams.
SEC newbies
1. Texas
5. Texas A&M
7. Oklahoma
29. Missouri
BIG newbies
11. Oregon
21. Washington
22. Nebraska
37. UCLA
47. Maryland
51. Rutgers
? USC is private, but I would guess 10-15.
Let's look at some ACC schools as this is where the SEC would expand further, if at all:
12. Clemson
13. Virginia
15. Florida State
16. Louisville
27. North Carolina
32. Virginia Tech
36. Georgia Tech
? Duke is private
? Miami is private

The BIG covets UVA/UNC and potentially more (GT, Duke, FSU?).
If UVA/UNC go SEC, then the BIG isn't going to take some random spermtail (GT, Duke).

TV execs will probably require Clemson over Duke so here's an alternate version.

Imo, UVA/UNC is the priority. You get those, and you block the BIG out of the South and the fastest growing parts of the country altogether. Duke is a sweetener for UNC to make that happen. FSU is the best football brand after that.

Here is your 20 team SEC. 4 permanent rivals, 5 rotating opponents.

Probably can't do better and needed to signal stability to stakeholders and recruits.

No, I just don't like sanctimonious types.
Worry less about the softball team's connecting flight in Dallas, and worry more about the fact the football team's gone 6-7 the last two years.

Makes for a good soundbite, but is this really the point at which you stop and say "whoa, there's a human toll"?
Drink makes millions on a game that spits out kids with lifelong physical injuries, CTE, and a blasted endocrine system (most of the kids are on PEDs).
But the softball team has to make a connecting flight in Dallas, and that's the bridge too far?

Big Ten schools are gigantic schools. Good schools with rich alumni.
Maybe they aren't as rabid about college football as the South, but they don't need to be to have sway for TV contracts, which are frankly better than the SEC's.

FSU - Big football brand, even in down years. Huge alumni base. Sneaky bit: it's rapidly becoming a good school. Acceptance rate is steadily going down. It's on the cusp of AAU. Yes, it would be a double dip (second SEC team) in the state of Florida, but Florida is huge and rapidly growing like Texas.
UNC - The flagship state school in brand new state. Huge alumni base. Storied basketball, not storied football, but still one of the most recognizable and valuable brands in college sports.
UVA and Duke - The first two are obvious adds. FSU is willing to jump now. UNC might not be or might have eyes for the BIG. Offering UVA and Duke preserves UNC's rivalries to convince UNC to join, expands the SEC into Virginia, and blocks the BIG out of the South. Also, while it's nice to add top flight football schools, you need some middle/lower class teams like UVA and Duke as well. Plus, UVA and Duke are incredibly rich and powerful institutions off of the football field.
One final thought: the BIG expanded into large states on the West Coast, but the Midwest's population growth has stalled and some Midwest states are even losing population. If the SEC blocks the BIG out of the South, then the SEC can just sit back, watch its population skyrocket and the rising tide lift its boats.
