Hopefully never.... and I direct that mostly toward Tennessee fans who defiled Greg Schiano so badly that it was beyond reprehensible and vile. I use to half way like them until then and I am not even a Schiano fan.... even though I think he is a decent HC.

The right coach could have them in a very good place within 3 classes. So like 4 years.

You realize most court cases are kept under wraps until they are final right? If it comes out that Pruitt gets $0 are you going to walk this back? I find it incredible people are still so surprised that the lawyers are protecting their clients interests by keeping the information secure. What a crazy concept!

Ya'll care way more than we do, and its kinda sad.

Walk it back? Don't be an idiot. No one believes that Pruitt would have still been fired if he had gone 12-2 and won the SEC.

Not close to the Fulmer years when they were pulling Cosey Coleman,Deon Grant and Jamal Lewis in the same class.

Take the UGA blinders off and look at the last 10 years.

Tennessee needs a Saban type coach

So easy to find.

Fuller wasn't a great coach IMO but was a great recruiter who had some
exceptional assts.

Ideally? Never, and they eventually shutter the football program after having gone 20 years without a winning season.

Most likely? 5-7 years, assuming the sanctions are bad and handed out within the next year or so.

Someone should make a list of HC candidates who can walk into any football program and command absolute freedom to make all the calls.

And?

How in world does that translate into the next "Saban?"

Multitude of HC's have failed with the same freedoms Saban had at Bama to "call their shots"

It doesn't. But to have that type of autonomy, it has to be followed by a lot of success. Dabo, Day, Riley are names that could push back and probably get what they want. But do the universities really believe they have the next Saban? I doubt it.

Nope. You couldn't be more wrong.

Pruitt was a disaster from the jump. Word within the AD was that it wouldn’t have mattered who he recruited and got or when he got them. He is way too stupid and stubborn to ever have success running a program at that level.
With Butch/Dooley/Lane you can point to a few bad decisions/moments and say that a different choice there could have changed the outcome of their tenure but Pruitt had no chance at any point in time during his tenure at TN.

He beat a few bad teams but never ever had the program in position to be taken seriously by any contender. His whole operation was thought to be/and was seen as extremely amateur from top to bottom.

No doubt that its a must for almost every successful CFB HC.

The problem is the leadership. They need to hand over control and let someone run the show- risks and all- but they aren't ready yet.

When the last few fans who remember them being good give up eventually as an apathetic program they will had over control to some young guy as a yolo cost saving move. And that young guy will bring the program back.

So maybe in 10 years.

They haven't hit bottom, yet, so there is no way to know at the moment.

Not to mention Clemson is 100 miles from Knoxville and they seems to be doing OK lately

If anything Clemson is proof that Tennessee is just the *right* head coach away from being a contender. Clemson was an also ran in the ACC like 4 years into Dabo's career and he hit on a recruiting class, with talent that wasn't anything out of the ordinary for a good Tennessee class from the last decade, and 3-4 years later he's in charge of the only program that's at the level of Alabama and Ohio State.

Tennessee doesn't need a Saban. It needs what every program that has the resources and commitment at that level does. A CEO who's not forcing his football philosophy onto a program, and a guy who's willing to realize he's not the smartest guy in the room, just the most charismatic. Saban would work well anywhere, but he wouldn't be the same Saban at Tennessee. Dabo would be a better fit at Tennessee. Dabo is much better at massaging booster egos and playing that game than Saban. Saban could win a title at Tennessee and if he didn't press the right buttons on his way in, there would still be boosters trying to shite on the way he runs things.

Back in the day Tenn used to recruit very well in Georgia. Not so much anymore. Tenn also seemed to get guys from the west coast, don't know if they still recruit there or not.

To me, they need to be patient with a coach and give the guy some time to do what he can do. Perhaps the coaches they have had were not the right coaches to make it happen. It sounded to me that guys quit playing for Pruitt. That is never a good thing.

They didn't quit playing because of Pruitt, it was no.2 that was the issue.

That's horseshite. If he doesn't play Guarantano after he gets injured in 2018, Ga St doesn't happen, BYU doesn't happen, and he's still here. Maybe we lose a couple games that we won in 2019, but we beat Auburn and probably Arkansas too if we have Shrout as the guy. In a non covid year we go at least 8-5 with Bailey starting from jump. They'd still be gargling his balls on VN talking about "CORNBREAD" and "aighT."

Pruitt is out at Tennessee mainly because he was stupid enough to take the ball out of no.3s hands to give it to no.2 and the stupidity of that decision will be plain to see when Gray has about 1700 AP yards and 25 TDs next season and Guarantano gets benched for good after 3 games at Wazzu.
