Realistically, how long will it take for Tennessee to recover?

Or better yet, will they ever make it back?

a few years if and when they ever get a good coach. No disaster ever takes as long as people think to clean up with the right coach. The problem is they haven't the right coach to do that in over 15 years

They had some “good” coaches but the program didn’t become good with them. Is it a culture beyond the coach?

There can theoretically be a quick turnaround, but that would require some current powers in the SEC dropping off, and Tennessee putting the right coach in place.

The only good coach they've had since the early years of Fulmer was maybe Kiffin. He left for USC, his "dream job." after one season. Derek Dooley, Butch Jones, Jeremy Pruitt, and Josh Huepel are not the types of coaches to rebuild a program to something great. I'd also have a hard time calling them "good."

Butch Jones? Jeremy Pruitt? Derek Dooley?

I wouldn’t call them good. They would likely be bad at other SEC schools, too.

would it? Ole Miss, a program with no modern historical success to speak of, went from last in the SEC to a game away from the SEC title game within a couple years. There wasn't any significant drop-off with the perennial powers. If Ole Miss can figure it out, I don't see why Tennessee can't. Their problem has been a poorly run admin for years. They seem to be finally taking the steps to rebuild from the top down, but it may take a minute because I just don't see Huepel being the guy to build that program back

None of the above coaches were losers. They had proven their skills at other places, but when they came to TN the wheels fell off and the common denominator was TN. Makes u think doesn’t it?

Where exactly? Dooley had a losing record at La Tech. Butch was modestly successful at CMU and Cinncy, but that was mainly because he was riding Brian Kelly’s coattails. Pruitt had obviously proven himself as a DC, but had zero head coaching experience.

Winning at G5 schools is not proving yourself. And what did those guys really prove? Dooley had one winning season (8-5) at La Tech. Butch followed Brian Kelly at Central Michigan and went 8-5 twice and 11-2 once. He then followed him again and did ok at Cincy. Pruitt had never been a head coach before. And Heupel has done worse each season he's been at UCF after taking over a program that went undefeated the previous season.

Where? Kiffin is never going to stay long and has failed at every P5 and up school. Doolander just sucked as a P5 head coach. Jones is not a P5 coach. Pruitt is the only one with a future as a head coach and he lacks the people skills to be successful and that whole scandal thing. Heupel will hopefully be entertaining.

I don't know they'll ever recover. It's pretty bad at UT, and it's about to get worse. Sucks too, because I love to hate UT. They're currently so bad hating them seems kind of pointless. They're so pathetic I almost pity them. Then I remember Fulmer, and that's
enough to keep my hatred going enough to never feel sorry for them. Frick UT.

While watching the 2015 Bama vs UT game with UT leading late in the 4th, I remember thinking:
"Oh yeah. Now I remember. I frickin hate these guys."

Why would anyone actually choose those colors?

I hate to say it but i think kiffin coming back would have been the perfect solution to getting Tenn back not ex UCF coach.

How does Missouri have more built in advantages than Tennessee? Nashville is one of the fastest growing talent hubs in the nation and Atlanta metro has enough talent for Tennessee to get 5-6 SEC contributors every class even with as shite as we have been. On top of that Tennessee still recruits decently in FL, VA, and the Carolinas
