I think you are looking at normal.

Tennessee via incompetence has morphed into Texas Tech.

*The Texas Tech without Leach.

Or better yet, will they ever make it back?

Not until they get the right coach. There's not a major team sport in which the head coach matters more than college football.

How does Missouri have more built in advantages than Tennessee? Nashville is one of the fastest growing talent hubs in the nation and Atlanta metro has enough talent for Tennessee to get 5-6 SEC contributors every class even with as shite as we have been. On top of that Tennessee still recruits decently in FL, VA, and the Carolinas

Not to mention Clemson is 100 miles from Knoxville and they seems to be doing OK lately

I don’t think they’ll be a regular SECE contender for a long, long time. They just have too much competition for recruits nowadays. If you look at the successful programs these days you’ll see that the states they’re in produce good players. Tennessee has a handful, but some of those are going out of state. Tough place to be.

The problem UT has is the middle of the pack in the SEC has stepped up tremendously with coaching and recruiting. its going to be hard to get back, especially after so long. They are in a deep hole.

Everyone focuses on the look of horror on the girl's face but its the resigned look on the guy's face like he just knew this was going to happen that sells it.

First thing is to prove their charges in court, if that's not accomplished, then I'm certain they will be broke and it could be a long, long time

Back in the day Tenn used to recruit very well in Georgia. Not so much anymore. Tenn also seemed to get guys from the west coast, don't know if they still recruit there or not.

To me, they need to be patient with a coach and give the guy some time to do what he can do. Perhaps the coaches they have had were not the right coaches to make it happen. It sounded to me that guys quit playing for Pruitt. That is never a good thing.

Tennessee still recruits very well in Ga, Va, Nc, Sc, Md, Al. They still pull kids from Tx and Ca every class.

Pruitt the coach was more a victim of circumstances outside his control than being a bad coach. He was fired because of administrative issues. If Gitmo transfers in 2019 like everyone assumed then 2020 looks very different before the scandal.

They had some “good” coaches but the program didn’t become good with them. Is it a culture beyond the coach?

I don't know if it's "culture" or not, but their problems are pervasive and extend beyond coaching to administration and boosters. Mike Hamilton and Phil Fulmer were disasters as administrators. The search process that produced Jeremy Pruitt was a cluster frick of epic proportions.

Not close to the Fulmer years when they were pulling Cosey Coleman,Deon Grant and Jamal Lewis in the same class.

You're essentially getting UGA leftovers and it obviously shows up on the field.

No, they don't. They got one from TX this class, none from either state in 2020, and one from CA in 2019. That's two years in a row with none from CA. And the one you did get from CA two years ago is leaving. So in 3 years, that's one from TX and one from CA.

Pruitt was fired because he was a bad coach...the administration frickery was just Tennessee's ham-handed attempt to fire him without paying him. Gitmo not transferring is irrelevant...Pruitt should never have kept running him out there. Pruitt's mismanagement of the QB situation was pitiful. How is the decision about who to play at QB beyond his control? Did someone hold a gun to his head and make him play Gitmo? Did Gitmo's dad have pictures of naked Pruitt and Phat Phil feeding each other Krispy Kreme's in a suite at the Knoxville Marriott? The fact that in year 3 Pruitt had not been able to recruit/develop a serviceable QB is absolutely a testament to his incompetence.

I'm not sure they'll ever recover.

Too many teams located in their traditional recruiting footprint are good now.

Their problem has been a poorly run admin for years. They seem to be finally taking the steps to rebuild from the top down, but it may take a minute because I just don't see Huepel being the guy to build that program back

They still have a Chancellor that works for the NCAA investigation committee. They still have BOT members so entrenched and in control that they worked out that good cop-bad cop routine for Pruitt/Fulmer in their ill-advised presser to get it all off their chest.

So far, they have brought in yet another AD that thought hey, let's chastise the entire fan base for being too negative after their decade-long sojourn into the wilderness. Not to mention, eventually settled on another head coaching search, simply because the word is out that the inmates are still running the asylum.

Tennessee needs a Saban type coach. They think they are better than they are. Only an amazing coach will turn that around.
