Funny stat I read earlier about SC
Lsu has put as many QB’s in the pros as SC since the turn of the century

Kinda of a miss leading stat.. LSU with 9 and USC with 8 since 2000. buy, you can look at the fact that 6 different USC qbs have had NFL starts in the last 10 seasons, compared to LSU’s 3. So there is that

The whole discussion of "blue bloods" in nonsensical.
There are traditional "powers" in no particular order:
Alabama, Notre Dame, USC, tOSU, OU, Texas, Nebraska, LSU, UGa, Tennessee, Michigan, Penn State, Auburn. These are programs that have achieved over many decades. They may have experienced down periods but they eventually regain their mojo. I would add Miami, FSU, Florida and Clemson when the past 30-40 years are considered.

LSU isn't a blue blood and will never be a blue blood. Football didn't start in 2000.
Blue bloods are
Alabama
Ohio State
Michigan
Oklahoma
Notre Dame
Texas
and maybe USC

Michigan pre-Rich Rod was pretty darned consistent. They had Heismans, Nattys, Conference Titles, 1st Round Draft picks.
They did not have nattys

They won the natty in 1997. They split with Nebraska.

I just care about CURRENT Blue bloods:
LSU
Clemson
Alabama
Ohio State

If it is impossible for a team to become a blue blood then your criteria for blue blood is flawed and pointless. Obviously at some point in history these teams went from not meeting the criteria to meeting it. Why then is it now impossible to become a blue blood? LSU could win the natty every year for the next decade and you would still say they aren’t a blue blood.

Easiest definition for me is a team that can potentially compete for the National Championship in any 3 year stretch. This would mean they can transition coaches and not be shocking if they are in the Playoffs or championship in 3 years. With that’d I’d say they currently are:
Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Norte Dame, Clemson, Oklahoma, Texas, Washington, Southern Cal, Oregon, Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State.
There’s a reason those 16 teams will most always make up the Preseason top 25 regardless of their previous finish, because their recruiting pool is so deep, fanbase so large and success reasonably recent.
No general fan would be shocked to see 1 of these 16 teams make the playoffs. If talent rich underachievers, rock bottomed or 20th century blue bloods like the Nubs, Tennessee, A&M, Or Florida State made it then they’d all be newsworthy which proves they aren’t currently blue bloods.

I think the whole idea of "Blue Bloods" in college sports is kinda dumb. No high school recruit cares that Michigan won a billion games back in the leather helmet days or that USC won a bunch of national championships before their parents were born.
They do, if those teams are still winning 8-9 games every year, and in position to make a run.
quote:Notre Dame has been in the playoffs as much as Georgia, and has played for more national titles recently.
if those are your goals then right now there are only a handful of programs whose names carry some serious weight and are head and shoulders above the rest: Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Georgia. Not Michigan, not Notre Dame, not Miami, not USC, not Nebraska, and not Texas.
Clemson never makes that list if they didn't win very recently.
If Texas and USC get things straightened out, they're back in the mix tomorrow. Wasn't long ago that USC and Miami had more talent then a lot of CONFERENCES.

This is from last year, I think.
Since then LSU has moved up in natties and heisman.

LSU is without question a blue blood in cfb. 3 national titles under 3 consecutive coaching staffs? Only Miami has done that along with LSU.
