So the more rural country type people are State and the pretentious trust fund types are Ole Miss?

Lots of debate about the types of people each schools fans are in this thread.
I can clear it up. They’re not that much different. Both have crazies both have good ones. The difference though is pretty much MSU fans don’t have any delusions about themselves or their school. Not that they don’t think they can improve. They absolutely do believe they can be better. But they understand what the history is. Both schools are in the same level. This is what bothers OM fans. They are basically the same. Both are good schools. You can get good education. And prosper after graduation with your degree. Both sports programs have their good and bad. And for the most part, now they are respectable. It’s a struggle obviously for the big sport, football. It probably always will be. State fans accept this. OM fans don’t really accept any of this. They think they have to ignore State as serious rival. Most will tell you LSU is their bigger rival. And they really only care about the egg bowl as an after thought. They feel their school is on a much higher academic level. And oxfords a nice town but they’ve developed this myth about it being some legendary place. It’s really not much different than a lot of Mississippi towns. OM fans are much more likely to leave the state than State fans after graduating.
It’s truly the biggest difference. State fans humbly accept where they’re from. And what level they’ve been on compared to the SEC powers. It allows them to be more down to earth. They don’t have to make up delusions of grandeur. OM cannot accept it. It kills them that they are at the same level in almost every way. The difference can be seen in the path both programs have taken to improve and compete at higher levels. I think we all see what Cohen has done to elevate athletics. And the ones before him recently. The steady methodical approach that has begun to pay off. The GRIND.
Then you have OM. The shortcuts. Which have left them floundering in every sport. And trying to find their new current identity even. Land sharks. Bears. Rebels. 1 step forward. 3 steps back.

Ole Miss does have a lot of trust fund babies with names like O'keef, Griffin, or Sheldon, and with that you also have a lot a pretenders trying to fit in with that narrative. A lot of those guys, which has been stated, are from out of state like Georgia and Texas. We also have a lot a good guys as well though, as I'm sure MS State does. State just appeals to a greater part of the state because of all the rednecks that need a school to pull for. The hate they have towards us is far more than we have for them. We chose to try and look past them to grow our university, program, and our state, while beating us or bringing our program down is all the satisfaction they need. We are their Superbowl.

This tight here is a typical example of the hyperbole that OM repeats and repeats till everyone starts to believe it. The “they hate us so much and we don’t even think about them” bullshite is the worst played kindergarten-level crap they have come up with. The fact they cheated their asses off when it was obvious to the “Forward Rebels” group of boosters that State surpassed them as the premiere athletic program in the State flies in face of the narrative that they don’t even think about us.

Please tell me more about how much we cheated? Did Leo Lewis sign with us? You think he chose to go to Starkville for free? All these recruits we're supposedly throwing money at that end up NOT coming here, you think they're choosing to go to the other schools for free? I'm from Columbus and grew up partying at state in high school. I've seen both sides of it. The hate they have towards Ole Miss is far greater.

I like delta st but most of their "fans" are also fans of one of the sec schools. Typically msu if I had to guess”

They are rebel strong....at least how it was 15 years ago...
I would say proximity to Ole Miss would be the major reason......Also, if you are white and still live in the delta, chances are....you’re a big money lawyer or landowner. Yep, the dirty delta is where the “neckwork” started.

Now, State has the coast trash on lock.

MS has 3 million people, fairly divided among North, Central, and South thirds.

In those populations there are only a small percentage of college educated folk.

On a universal view, we are all the same and all know each other. The rivalry is a product of sharing such meager means in a poor state, not a result of some imaginary class struggle

Sounds like they just don't like you. It happens. You may not believe this, but I haven't always been loved by strangers who are OM fans

shut your dirty effing mouth

but you're right... state fans outnumber OM on the coast. Only lawyers are OM grads on the coast. But LSU out numbers the OM fans.

I’ve been perplexed for the last 20 years at how well OM has still been able to recruit African American athletes. Really surprising.

Yes, State far and away blows past OM on the coast. I would go out on a limb and say LSU, USM, and maybe even sidewalk Bammers outnumber OM fans.

Old Waverly and Mossy Oak are two of these nicest courses in the state. Both a 30 minute drive from campus.

Your average accountant (think Horne CPA), lawyer (think Butler Snow or politicians or plaintiff lawyers) and physician in Mississippi will be a Rebel. This means many of the wealthy folks in MS pull for OM.

Your average engineer, farmer or computer programmer will pull for State.

State fans are good, salt of the earth folks, by in large. Ole Miss fans are more closely associated with the Garden & Gun/30A persona...not bad, just what they fancy themselves as being.

State guys are more baw-ish, driving Z71s and having good Delta land to hunt. Ole miss fans are more of a country club crowd driving Tahoes and LR Discoveries.

Both sectors have good folks. Probably more State fans across the state though.

State has more in state support. A large portion of OM students are from Texas metros/Memphis/Atlanta so they have a larger out of state following than MSU.

Both probably have similar size fan bases. Both get similar gameday attendances now and have pretty close enrollment numbers

Your average physician is more likely a State undergrad who is still very loyal to State. Hell, the Dean of your Medical School is a Mississippi State grad. Our Forensic Accounting program is one of the best and there are plenty of Bulldog lawyers too. You have Dickie Scruggs (is he still in federal prison) and Lampton Love (propane man) though.
