What if I have an OM degree and do both?

I grew up a diehard bulldog bc my grandfather was a die hard Reb so I was a dawg to spar with him. We bet many a coca colas on state/om games before he passed. But I had a bad carwreck in high school so for proximity reasons I went to Ole Miss and got an accounting degree. Had some good rebel friends but you kinda had to fit in their cliches. I did but wasn't my cup of tea. State fans are much more down to earth realists that are much more accepting. Ive had plenty of beers with both. The Ole Miss conversations always ended up being about possessions and looking down at ppl.

Lots of debate about the types of people each schools fans are in this thread.
I can clear it up. They’re not that much different. Both have crazies both have good ones. The difference though is pretty much MSU fans don’t have any delusions about themselves or their school. Not that they don’t think they can improve. They absolutely do believe they can be better. But they understand what the history is. Both schools are in the same level. This is what bothers OM fans. They are basically the same. Both are good schools. You can get good education. And prosper after graduation with your degree. Both sports programs have their good and bad. And for the most part, now they are respectable. It’s a struggle obviously for the big sport, football. It probably always will be. State fans accept this. OM fans don’t really accept any of this. They think they have to ignore State as serious rival. Most will tell you LSU is their bigger rival. And they really only care about the egg bowl as an after thought. They feel their school is on a much higher academic level. And oxfords a nice town but they’ve developed this myth about it being some legendary place. It’s really not much different than a lot of Mississippi towns. OM fans are much more likely to leave the state than State fans after graduating.
It’s truly the biggest difference. State fans humbly accept where they’re from. And what level they’ve been on compared to the SEC powers. It allows them to be more down to earth. They don’t have to make up delusions of grandeur. OM cannot accept it. It kills them that they are at the same level in almost every way. The difference can be seen in the path both programs have taken to improve and compete at higher levels. I think we all see what Cohen has done to elevate athletics. And the ones before him recently. The steady methodical approach that has begun to pay off. The GRIND.
Then you have OM. The shortcuts. Which have left them floundering in every sport. And trying to find their new current identity even. Land sharks. Bears. Rebels. 1 step forward. 3 steps back.
This may be the most accurate thing ever posted on this board. And everyone who downvoted it is a certifiable idiot, and validates everything he said about Ole Miss fans.

He knocked it outside of the park for sure. Very accurate representation.

Ole Miss does have a lot of trust fund babies with names like O'keef, Griffin, or Sheldon, and with that you also have a lot a pretenders trying to fit in with that narrative. A lot of those guys, which has been stated, are from out of state like Georgia and Texas. We also have a lot a good guys as well though, as I'm sure MS State does. State just appeals to a greater part of the state because of all the rednecks that need a school to pull for. The hate they have towards us is far more than we have for them. We chose to try and look past them to grow our university, program, and our state, while beating us or bringing our program down is all the satisfaction they need. We are their Superbowl.
There's just as many, if not more goateed, camoed z-71 driving rednecks in vaught hemingway on a saturday as there are in davis wade. Sorry to mess up your narrative, Winthorp.

I agree with the z71 and goatees. But camo? C’mon dude. That’s essentially an alternate school color for y’all.

Is this going to be like when Paul Ott made fun of State for having a booster found Mossy Oak till someone told him the Realtree Camo guy is an Ole Miss booster?

No. Bill Jordan is a gentleman and a saint.
FTR, I wear mostly First Light stuff now, so I look down on everyone.
I don’t wear any of it to football games though.

Prepnecks (those with disposable income specifically spent on the things listed below) heavily populate both bases if you're talking MS but really that goes for all SEC bases because most SEC (excluding Mizzou) baws like to hunt and fish and spend stupid amounts of money that their wives don't know about or like on gear, deer camps, duck holes, fishing camps, beer / liquor at said camps, going to nice restaurants in the delta while at camp or big arse steaks / grilling material, camp poker, crappy bars in the delta, and in some cases, casinos, strip clubs, etc..This has been my experience.
You will tell your wife that you're going to camp for the weekend and she's cool with it until you end up spending like a house payment while bringing home ducks that have an average cost of $300 per duck.

One other thing I haven't seen mentioned: diehard Ole Miss fans are dwindling and dying off because they haven't won shite since the 1950's and 60's. They've had a few seasons of success here and there since then, but a lot more failure and frustration than wins. In everything that matters. Back in the day, they were on near equal footing with Alabama and Tennessee and LSU, then the 70's came along and Ole Miss faded, no, plummeted into irrelevance. Who wants to root for a perennial loser? Especially when the brief periods of success and hope are cut short by investigations and probation.
State has, for the most part, been mediocre, but you'd have to say that their highs are higher and their lows not as low as the Rebel Akbar Black Bear Sharks. MSU has accomplished some things, been to Atlanta, been ranked #1, even if just briefly long after Ole Miss has been mentionable.
State's fans have been more likable too. They have pretty much the typical fan base with good, bad and nut cases. As does Ole Miss, but there's this ever present underlying bitterness with Rebels as they long for yesteryear and reminisce about the good old days, tempered with a dash of paranoia that the NCAA, the SEC, and just about everybody is out to get them. They mutter the words "fricking NCAA nazis" and "death penalty" under their breath when they think nobody is listening. They are ready to pick a fight with anyone to defend their honor, even if there's none to defend.
The best thing going for Ole Miss is the coeds. Yeah, they are still vying for championships in that department. They like to mention The Grove and say they've never lost the party. In reality, it's an excuse to drink away another demoralizing arse-beating.
If the Mississippi schools were your relatives, you'd say that State is your cousin or uncle that owns his own business and is finally starting to make good. He's had some rocky times and things looked bleak on occasion, but he persevered and is now starting to see the fruits of his labors. No, he's not rich; far from it, he's still a hard-working middle class guy, but he's doing ok and enjoying it.
Ole Miss is your slightly crazy great uncle who once was pretty well off but a series of bad judgements and misfortune reduced him from the ranks of the wealthy to the eccentric mooching kinfolk you hate to see coming. He'll drink your booze, eat your food, and commandeer your house while telling you how much better his own used to be and what's wrong with yours, if only the stock market hadn't crashed back then. He'll rant for hours about the good old days and what might have been and where he went wrong, but won't do a damn thing to change anything. Because he's done that before and it all went wrong so he's not doing that again. Only he'll tell you he tried something similar just last year and the same thing happened. Just like your crazy great uncle, we're all about ready to send him to the nut house or the Big XII if they'll take him off your hands. We can always find a replacement that won't be as bad or as maddening.

Blah blah blah...didn't read all that exhausting melting. All your money, your legendary coach, your machine and of course your self esteem got punk'd by Katy Perry, Bo Wallace and Mr. Irrelevant, in prime time, back to back, and you still can't handle it.

I see State fans and Twitter accounts constantly talking about Ole Miss. It seems like most of Mississippi really cares about whatever the Rebelbearsharks are up to

Real simple here...more rural/agricultural/wildlife research/camo/hunting/even “redneck” if u will? MS St.
More lawyer/pharmacy/medical/“goody two shoes” if u will?
Ol Miss.
Not hard to see, ol miss calls the cow bell ringers camo wearing hunter orange rednecks and State calls sharks? Uppity figs..simple

From my experiences-
In the State of Mississippi: States the majority
Nation wide big cities: Ole Miss is the majority, but it’s pretty close.
From what I’ve encountered about local Mississippians without ties to either school: they swing for both, but right now you’ll catch them in MSU hats... Just depends on who’s up or down.
