I just drove through a large portion of the state from the bottom up via I-55 and I noticed a lot more Mississippi State license plates and decals. Does State have a bigger following or are they coming out of the closet after having a few decent seasons?

Mississippi money is Ole Miss fans. Everyone else follows MSU. Hint - the wealthier people are outnumbered.

So the more rural country type people are State and the pretentious trust fund types are Ole Miss?

I'd say MSU 60% / OM 35% / Southern 5%

I would agree with that. Actually you can throw in 10% to Bama. I live in Columbus, where there are tons of Bama fans. Along with meridian.

Do a lot of folks in Mississippi who have no ties to either school just bandwagon on whichever is better? I can see people hopping on that Rebel train in 2015 then right off.

There is no such thing as a USM fan. Everyone I know that went to that school was an LSU fan that was too poor to go there or couldn’t get in.

No it is worse than the Iron Bowl. It is an annual pillow fight that they want you to watch. At least the Iron Bowl is between competitive teams. What is even sadder is that these two events surprised no one.

State is mainly the people's college. Friendly accepting people. Better overall sports programs of course, doesn't hurt. Ole miss people are more arrogant and still live in the 50/60's lots of racism.

I bet after the Ole Miss scandal it was some kind of unwritten rule that Miss fans had to take down their stuff for awhile. Like it was a kind of acknowledgement of the situation. Gotta take that ""L"".

On that level if not more.

I don't think people outside the state truly understand the absolute disdain the two schools have for each other.

Like it has been that way since State was started in 1878, UM was real pissed another school was started to begin with and it ran from there.

Facts about the rivalry, the first State-Ole Miss game was delayed in 1901 because the schools argued over the eligibility of players. The two school both had teams for 6 years before playing but it took them 6 years to find refs they agreed on.

The trophy was made because UM ended a 13 in a row State win streek in 1920s and rushed States field. MSU responded by picking up wooden chairs and starting a fight.

There was also a big fight in 1997, last year had like 7 or 8 scuffles throughout the game. UM also was diving at our players knees (Fitz injury was the dirties tackle I've seen in a long time), it is a fun time.

State fans spend their money on garbage like State license plates and decals. Same for LSU fans.

Ole Miss fans generally invest their money and don't spend it on stupid shite.
