Would you deny that false accusations are harmful to real victims?

If Harris is guilty, I hope he justly gets what he deserves.

It's not an either/or choice. Both are unwarranted before guilt is established. Anyway, we were talking about the legal system in general.

I think Florida is within their rights to suspend him and probably ought to based on the charge. A university is not a court of law, and some of the problems we have today are because people act as though they are. Handling sexual assault cases in university committees, for example, is lunacy.

The UF athletic department has decided to suspend someone until an investigation is over. He may not be guilty. That's unfortunate for Harris if true, but Florida is being cautious, which I think is admirable and warranted here.

Agree. Would rather he be suspended then we find out he is innocent than have him play and get charged at a later date.

Those tweets were from someone at WRUF who says this information came from a source "close to Harris".

Agree - sends the wrong message to allow the kid to play - assuming they are going off of some more information than we have at this point. It says to the team members that they can do whatever the frick they want.

Now - also assume that he's not innocent and they allow him to play. The damage to the UF brand is material. Not saying huge, but definitely makes an impact.

The problem with those tweets is they make no sense. They allege/imply that she was planning this since orientation with the "he said/she said" comment and yet turn around and say that it was a spur of the moment thing - that she got mad when she found out they weren't exclusive. One doesn't plan this out from orientation AND months later get mad/jealous and on the spur of the moment run to police.

I don't think that there is any chance he plays this weekend.

This guy has apparently removed those tweets now:

Daniel Gillman @DanielGillman · 59m 59 minutes ago

In RE: to my earlier tweets about Treon Harris, I have removed three tweets that were a result of a single source close to Harris.

==========================

He then tweeted:

Daniel Gillman @DanielGillman · 1h 1 hour ago

.@WUFTNews has not been able to connect the woman who reported the incident with the source’s understanding of the party involved.

Pretty much. All you have to do is look at schools like Vandy and Mizzou who have (whether rightfully so or not) have dealt with the handling of a domestic violence situation. There are implications such as the removal of Title IX money as well these days. A University can't afford to give leeway in accusations like this.

And of Harris has been wrongly accused then I have no problem with him going after the girl with full legal clout. But I don't see the issue with suspending him during an investigation.

No, I wouldn't deny that. And real rapes are harmful to real victims.

Missing a couple of football games while an issue is investigated isn't the end of the world for an innocent person, as fricked up as it may be.

We don't know what happened.

We don't know what information the school has.

We don't know anything about forensics or other evidence.

We know that some female made a criminal complaint.

Everything else in this thread has been pure speculation and a waste of time for anyone who made the mistake to read it all. I didn't.
