An 8-year-old Canadian boy died from a fatal allergic reaction two days after he was allegedly served the wrong item at Dairy Queen.

The Gartland family of Kingston, Ontario, went on an outing to the ice cream shop on May 18 when the tragedy unfolded. The mother, Julia, ordered a vegan Dilly Bar for her son, Liam, who is severely allergic to dairy, eggs, and peanuts.

About five minutes after eating the dessert, the little boy went into anaphylaxis and had to be rushed to the hospital, where he fought for his life for two days before passing away

Dairy Queen sells the bars individually wrapped for the safety of those with dairy and nut allergies.

The company sent their condolences to the Gartland family and confirmed that the local outpost is working with authorities on the investigation in a statement to The Kingston Whig-Standard.
