Big 10 is now king. How do southern schools counter this?

As long as LSU is competitive, I’m good. Good luck.

Come up with a way to have multi-year contracts. Come up with something resembling a salary cap.

If pro sports leagues did not have a salary cap and contracts they would implode eventually.

Eventually so will college sports as we know them if changes aren’t made. Currently success in college hinges more on who has the boosters willing to spend the most every year.

The turnover of rosters every year has led to sloppier football. That is what made Indiana so unique, the core of that team had been together for 4 or 5 years, first at JMU and then transferring en masse to Indiana.

They also need to do something about that. Currently there is nothing to stop 100% of a team from transferring. We have seen several examples in the last 24 months of teams having to replace 75% or more of their roster..

Do the Big 10 schools just have more money than us? All those states together dwarf us in population.

there will eventually be contracts and salary caps. Until then we are living in the wild west.

this is not sustainable, however. It will change.

I mean..Of course they do. B10 alumni bases alone swallow the SEC except for a handful of schools, which up until about 8-12 yrs ago, were largely localized to small, rural states.

B10 schools have countless more rich alums in much higher traditional industries. Outside of Texas, which cares nothing about hoops, there are only a couple of SEC state schools that have the resources to even compete now.

Florida, Arkansas, and Kentucky are the only schools that will consistently compete in hoops from now on. Once Alabama loses Oats, they will fall back again.

Its Florida, Bama, and Tennessee. Arkansas and UK are a step below them right now

It’s cyclical and I don’t necessarily think this is all NIL related.

In basketball, last season, there were 0 Big 10 teams and 2 SEC teams in the Final Four, with the SEC winning it all.

Why Is this even a question? B10 has an infinitely better TV contract. Sankey bent over and took it from espn.

The SEC cannot compete with the B10. They make more money. They play a physical brand of football and basketball - the SEC does not. Nowadays, the SEC is more run and shoot, including the best teams in the league.

The B10 will line up and blow you off the ball. In both sports

If you’re a Georgia fan, and older than 25, then you should know.

LSU has played Georgia 5 times (2003, 2005, 2011, 2019, 2022) in the SEC Championship game and is 3-2 against you.

Go full fricking in on sponsorship. The SEC needs to look like NASCAR drivers and soccer players out there. It’s a joke now. Screw tradition at this point. It’s gone. Put the ads on the jersey and outspend those bastards.

Some of these sky-is-falling hot takes can come across as so attention starved.

The NIL has nothing to do with the reality that the B10 has better coaches in both sports than the SEC.

Top 4 football:
1. Cignetti
2. Day
3. Smart
4. Lanning

They’ve got strong program builders: Painter, Underwood, Izzo, Hoiberg and May looks like a killer for Michigan.

Compare that to the SEC who has Cal at Arkansas on a sunset tour, Kentucky who scares nobody, an Auburn that needs dad to take the wheel and a solid Tennessee and Bama.

NIL didn’t do this.
