When is LSU competitive ?

Quite often? Multiple championships in football. Second most in baseball. Basketball is another story lol. But what kind of question is that except to look retarded?

Endowments - Where the real money lies.

B1G schools dwarf the SEC schools.

This is so stupid. The BIG has won ONE basketball championship in 37 years and it was 26 years ago, Michigan State. They haven’t won a baseball CWS since 1966.

Yes football has the last three, but before Michigan won it in 2023, you were in a 10 year drought. Before that you had only won two titles since the late 90’s.

Don’t lose your cookies. You’ve had a recent string of good teams, but you’re not on the SEC’s level yet. We won 13 titles in 17 seasons, and 6 in a row with 4 different teams. GTfOH

Schools like Michigan and Ohio State have had much large enrollments for a much longer time. I would imagine the potential pool of dollars of alumni they have is much bigger.

Geographic recruiting helped the South a lot, but now money is all that matters.

WAY MORE money. The Texas schools help close the gap but Iowa for example has way more money than an Ole Miss.

NIL meant legalized paying of players. Goodbye SEC advantage.

The funny thing is that SEC fans thought NIL would work in their favor.

DINGY INFO.........The Big 10 finally had a good year in CBB, LOL. And Ill. was overseeded, if Bama had that 3 seed they might have went further. Bana beat Ill. head to head, had basically identical records, had 8 tier 1 wins and 7 tier 2 vs. Ill. 7 & 7. Had a better SoS so what gives? If Florida beats Iowa they beat Ill. so its not as dire as you say.

Indiana OUT SPENT NO ONE, you do not even understand why they won. Mich. should have lost to Bama, in 2023, ahead by 7 with both defenses dominating, if so Bana beats Washington in the title game.

The Big 10 and Indiana passed no one, the NCAA has allowed a HELTER SKELTER BS operation to take hold of the NCAA and it has created ALL TEAMS BECOMNG WORSE, not better. So, the SEC took the game more serious, our coaches could disciple players and crack the whip so to speak, now if they try that, players will just transfer, OR they are all moving fir more money, and even its from SEC to SEC that levels the playing field, you can no longer have a player with 3-4 years of TEAM WORK with ONE COACH, now you have have players changing, this CHAOS, whish advantages the worse teams but why? Because the better teams now become more like the worse teams, no discipline, bad attitudes, no 3-4 year team building etc. etc. The Big 10 aint done crap.

The sorry courts have created a BS NCAA and thus I quit watching in 2019, its no good. In 5-10 years all you will hate it, unless Saban and Trump can get something done. And they are going to ruin all the other non profit sports.

... and yet you guys come to the SEC Rant to talk about it. The irony is just too much. This is in flux for now and the eyes are still on the SEC when it comes to college sports. Indiana bought a team 2 years in a row and the other B1G schools Michigan and OSU have always been traditional powers in football. When it's all said and done it will be the SEC that cones out on top because we don't deal with many pro teams in each state. Enjoy it while it last.... because it won't last. Warm weather vs ice cold will always be a deal breaker for southern kids who are actually the better places to get recruits. When the money thing gets settled... it will go back to normal very quickly.

Texas Longhorns ain't complaining.

Side note prediction here...
Texas will surpass $400,000,000 annual revenue first time they receive full SEC revenue share. Will be the first university to break through 400 million.

Edit, Save the "and nothing to show for it" remarks. I think this will be changing soon, otherwise, what else is NIL good for?

The SEC won a basketball natty last season.

Footballs "drought" is a little over stated. If Ole Miss had Lane and less distractions they probably at least play for the title last year. Michigan had a scouting scandal and Ohio State money whipped a title. Indiana is a convergence of age,qb play and a coach.

SEC does need to circle the wagon and get serious about the money gap, they cant be lax but its not as dire as people think

But you still don’t have the advantage. Two out of the three Big 3 sports still have SEC defending champs. WTH are you smoking man?

Great question since you have spent more money buying players in 2024 and 2025 than any other school

Despite this place’s claim that LSU is broke, LSU just managed to get two get two and have a ton of NIL for players in both sports. The sports world is steaming with anger. You are just too stupid to see what is coming. Enjoy your ignorance while it lasts, gump.

Top 4 football: 1. Cignetti 2. Day 3. Smart 4. Lanning

Without NIL and the transfer portal neither Cignetti nor Lanning nor Day is on that list. Cignetti is a good coach. But without bringing his JMU team to Indiana and paying Mendoza to transfer in, many college fans would not recognize his name.

Oregon is attractive because of facilities and NIL. Financed with Nike money. Without the money, Oregon itself does not have the history or location to be very attractive to recruits. Neither does Bloomington.

Day is not better than Smart. In the last eight years, when both were head coaches of their respective schools, Kirby has won more national championships and conference championships than Day. And Ohio State has benefitted greatly from the portal, specifically Alabama. Last season their only two first team All-Americans were first year transfers from Alabama. This past season their starting QB and one of their three consensus All-Americans were from Alabama.

NIL and the transfer portal are clouding and influencing who people think are good coaches.

A famous quote about Bear Bryant was “He can take his team and beat yours, and then he can turn around and take yours and beat his.” I don’t think that is the case with Day.

I think contracts and/or restricting the portal to 1 free transfer is a much bigger deal, and most importantly easier to do, than salary caps.

NIL is not sustainable, SEC has dominated so long the BIG 10 schools are willing to spend more....

The current model is a temporary transition. Once a few big money blue bloods get a NC under their belt it will default back to normal sums of money.

Paying $1m for a HS player to sit on the bench only to get out bid in the portal is bad business for the schools.
