I guess I don't totally understand...he's never been to an SEC Championship game, never been to a playoff, his teams are generally pretty soft and more about style than substance...is he living off that one Peach Bowl win over James Franklin-led Penn State?

Not to mention he's a flake and totally unreliable to stay at a school long-term. I guess I just don't understand why he's getting SO much media attention of whether he will stay or will he go. He's a good coach, but not necessarily someone I want to rely on to run my team's program.

He's gotten Ole miss to three consecutive 10 win seasons and is on the verge of getting them to the playoffs. That's pretty impressive stuff

Hey, don’t forget about that Gator Bowl win against Duke’s second team.

"Kiffin to X" has been driving news, warranted or unwarranted, since Al Davis fired him. It's just something we have to go through sometimes

No lies detected. Beat us the last two years. Alabama should consider jumping in the mix.

It’s the first season he’s been courted by traditional blue-bloods with an opening.

I think in many coaching searches the process becomes psychological.
The bidding war itself manufactures a coach’s value.
eBay and auction sites operate largely on this premise.

A coach becomes “the guy” the moment multiple programs chase him.
Nothing about his résumé changed, but competition kicks in, and suddenly ADs must win the hire or look weak.
The coach becomes the prize trophy in an ego arms race.

I’m more than surprised at the perceived lack of a proper search with several of these programs looking to make a HC hire.
There are some phenomenal assistants out thereripe for the taking.
But I’m not an AD.

Lots of openings, not many quality coaches.

There is no greater sin in the media's eyes than becoming the coach at LSU.

He's peaking at the right time. You could pick a lot of past coaches who were at the top of the pecking order at one point, Tom Herman, Lincoln Riley, Jimbo Fisher, Chip Kelly, and one NC between all of them.

History says Kiffin's flame will burn out in a few years just like everyone else's usually does and some other coach will be the new "it" guy

Because most teams are out of the playoff discussion now so the losers either talk about new coaches or their Music City Bowl bid. Unless they are the Gators because they have no bowl bid to discuss

Its possible.

I think Lane is a lot better than some of those guys.

Tom Herman doesnt belong with the other 3 really. Chip Kelly was really good for a long time and put Oregon on the map. Jimbo's career was lengthy and great for almost 15 years. Lincoln Riley hasnt completely faded yet, I think he's just in the wrong spot. He needs to get over his fear of the SEC.

The same reason you created this thread talking about Lane.
