When I am ordering at the bar, usually just beers, I will throw the bartender 1 dollar for my first beer, but after that, I don't usually tip.
I never understood why I would tip every time. She's just opening the beer? I would do it myself if I could.

I know there's some nostalgia with Mike & Mike in the morning, but that was always a super weak radio show back when it was on.
Anything with Mike Greenberg on it is too corporate and bland.

I get it's really annoying how many services have that tip screen now. And I do think it means that services that legitimately should be tipped won't be.
With that said, I have no problem hitting that "No Tip" or "0%" button, even if a worker is staring at me.
At the end of the day, you just click "No Tip" and move on.

Lack of American representation aside, this has been a wildly entertaining tournament on the men's side. Just what men's tennis needed tbh

During my busy season, it can be probably as high as 60 hours a week (maybe a little less). Outside of busy season, usually, it's much more needs-based. So it can be a lot, it can barely anything, just depends on my clients and if they are requesting my help or not during those quieter times.

Tiafoe SHOULD win from here. What a great comeback in that third set!

This has been the best Major for the men in a long time. Tons of intrigue, very close, physical matches, the winner completely up in the air.
Finally, it feels like men's tennis has some juice again. And I'm not talking about Sinner's doping.

Curious….what would make drivers who are just starting out get lower ratings?
You can have up to 500 ratings affect your overall rating before each rating falls off and, unlike Lyft (where if you don't rate you get five stars and Lyft will drop your lowest rating), Uber doesn't drop any ratings and only about half the people rate.
So if you have 400 rides, you might have 200-250 ratings, so each individual rating means more. Whereas, if you have 2000 rides, you have the full 500 ratings, so each individual rating means less.
Plus, as a new driver, you are just figuring out how it works and trying to work the app, so you're more likely to screw up.

Not working in this space, the videos highlighting charge backs, non deliveries, harassment complaints, etc., make me think this costs people more money than they make doing the work. "The restaurant didn't include ranch, 1 star, no tip!" kind of crap directed at the driver. How prevalent?
I don't do deliveries, but you will occasionally get someone who just makes up a BS excuse "Not Polite," "Illegal Driving," etc because they want a free ride or because they have some ridiculous vendetta because they set the pickup/drop-off wrong, or whatever the stupid reason is.
But, generally, if you're nice, have a semi-clean car, and don't smell, a driver should never fall below 4.95 stars (unless they're just starting out) and CERTAINLY never fall below 4.90 stars. It's very hard as a driver to fall below 4.90 stars. I am a 4.99 right now.

I do Uber Eats 6-10 hours a week. Only work weekend nights from about 5:30-8:00. If orders are good, I’ll sometimes work till 9:00. If orders are shitty, I’ll sign off at 7:00. 90% of my orders are Metairie east of Transcontinental and Lakeview up to the Orleans Canal. Always take orders paying at least $2 a mile. I’ll take a well paying order to Harahan/ River Ridge and occasionally to Kenner. I try not to deliver to any apartment complexes. After doing it awhile you learn the restaurants to stay away from because they always make you wait for the order.
I’m able to average $20-$40 an hour. And I don’t work in the rain, like tonight.
I think there's this perception that there's more "clout" to working in a restaurant than doing Uber/Lyft/Uber Eats/Door Dash, etc...but so long as you're doing it as a side gig, it can be very profitable.
You have a great system in place. You need a system on what orders (or rides) you're accepting, what the financials need to look like to accept a ride/order, etc. If you're accepting every order/ride, you're going to be in trouble after expenses.
Working as in rideshare has made me appreciate customer service workers more and given me more appreciation for Uber drivers and what they go through when when I'm an Uber passenger now.
Really happy I decided to start driving and can't believe I've done it for a few years already and that I've done a few thousand rides.

I drive for Uber on the side. Thought about doing restaurant work on the side, but I like the flexibility that Uber provides in terms of my schedule.
It's definitely best in my market in the fall and spring, so I tend to drive more during those times. It would be miserable as a full-time job, but as a side hustle, especially since I've been doing it for a few years, I know how to make good money quickly in my market.
Definitely think it's helped my small-talk skills as well. While I prefer to be quiet when I'm taking an Uber, y'all might be surprised how many people want to talk.

Oh definitely could see him crashing out early too. I remember he won Rome and then, I picked him to go very deep in Roland Garros, and he immediately lost to Seyboth Wild
With that said, I'm really just trying to find someone I can say will challenge Sinner. I really don't see anyone besides Sinner himself cramping up.
Zero intrigue on the men's side, while the women's side looks wide open to me. Could see so many different players winning the women's title.

Sinner will win this on the men's side almost for sure. With that said, I'm very surprised you didn't say Medvedev was his biggest competition. He's the only one who has pushed him over the past 3 months.

I do wonder...everything is so so freaking expensive nowadays, what's going to happen in 10 years? Prices really can't keep rising at the rate they're rising now or else everything will be unaffordable.
Something has to change to get us off our current trajectory.

I've just accepted, when it comes to college sports, to not try to think too much about the changes being made.
I disagree with almost every decision made in college sports nowadays, just feels like a massive money grab. But I'm just trying to focus on my individual teams and not the depressing state of the NCAA.
It sucks, though.

Normally, I would be hollering about how everything is getting worse nowadays and yada yada yada.
With that said, I just looked it up, and the one-hour flight from New Orleans to Atlanta is typically in the 423 to 472 mile range.
I don't see a world where I would take a flight 349 miles or less (as opposed to driving), let alone expect in that short time in the air that the flight attendants would be running around to deliver me snacks/drinks.
A 349-mile flight must be like 45 minutes in the air. People can wait until they land to get a snack/drink...

Look, this is one of those things where it is totally fine if he goes 11-1 next year and makes a run in the playoffs.
If he goes 9-3 and crashes out early in the playoffs or misses it entirely, then you come back to stuff like this and think, "Wow, he wasn't focused at all."

re: Anyone here ever been to the US Open tennis?
Posted by pelicansfan123 on 4/24/26 at 3:07 pm to The Mick
I haven't ever been...but as a big tennis fan, I know how this works.
Essentially, if you're going in the first week of the tournament, there are two very different experiences.
You can buy a ticket to the big stadiums, which will allow you to see the big names. But most of the matches won't be very competitive, your seats won't be good unless you pay a lot of money, but you'll get to see the names you probably recognize.
I think that the "true" Slam experience is to get an outer court pass (especially for first two rounds). You'll be RIGHT in the action, the matches will vary, but many will be super competitive, the atmospheres will be intimate and intense, and you get to really experience tennis at the highest level from SUPER close to the court. It would be an incredible experience, you just might not know the players playing (depending on your tennis background).

I'm not going to argue with you, but let me put it this way:
The biggest basketball star right now is LeBron James, right? He has 4 million followers on instagram.
Federer? 13.1 million. Nadal? 21.2 million.
NFL is MASSIVE in the US, yet Tom Brady has over 5 million less followers compared to Nadal (although he has more than Federer.
I don't think you realize how much the rest of the world cares about tennis, even if it's a small sport in the US.
