Is that seriously where CFB is? Every P5 school should have a non compete clause in their contracts for head coaches to prevent what is happening right now at Ole Miss. Kiffin is a huge douche and if he leaves I hope whatever school that gets him loses every game. Just zero class to do this while your team is looking to clinch a playoff berth this weekend.

Why would a coach agree to that? Further, if the schools colluded to require that they would get in big legal trouble. Some states don’t enforce non competes.

Yep, right to work states outnumber the others.

"Right to work" does not prohibit someone from voluntarily entering into a non-compete contract.

As noncompete laws are state specific - if he leaves the state it'd be hard to enforce it.

Also, you are free to look for another job, but not in company time and resources.

Lane has clearly crossed that line.

There was some coach recently that signed an extension that had a "no poaching" clause, which is what you are really talking about. Can't remember the name, but I think you may end up seeing that in more contracts. It's not something that should get a lot of pushback from the coach when you are signing them up initially, or to an extension.

Do you think Kiffin is punching a time clock?

Define company time for a college football coach. He's not fielding calls during practice.

That's one of the reasons that coaches have agents. It is the agents job to do all of that recruiting and hiring work.

I am quite sure that Kiffen has not personally reached out to any other schools about job vacancies. I doubt he will give any indication as to what his future plans are until the end of the season.

All the bluster you see right now regarding Kiffen are just people's opinions wanting to get more clicks

That is why he’s got an agent.

True but it does neuter your ability to enforce it. The best they can do is make you non rehireable

Which is probably illegal and unenforceable.

You want to stop coaches and players from leaving whenever they feel like it?

Collective bargaining.

Not true when there is a true employment contract in place.

Right-to-work laws have to do with unionization. Nothing to do with non-competes.

Most famous one I recall was Dan Enos when he was the OC at Arkansas.

He had a clause in his contract stating he couldn't leave for another OC job (it may have been a SEC job also), meaning he couldn't come to UGA with Pittman. Kirby wanted both of them badly.
