Yea you would, or a court would force it on you. If you don’t have the money, then they would take your house and everything else you have.
You are not wrong, but look at it another way. What does it cost you if you don't get the big name coach? You could lose fan interest, revenue, prestige. It won't happen fast, but over time you could fall behind in revenue as other schools spend to increase it. It only takes one coach to ruin a program sometimes. ADs are terrified of this risk and being remembered for that.
A&M didn't frick around on the money. They wanted his arse gone. In fact, the Athletic Department was presented with a huge check (literally) on the field at halftime of Jimbo's last game before he was fired.

Giant A&M Check

No, they are not obsessed, but if they are high profile they can make similar kind of money at other programs and without the drama at LSU.
Yea, this isn't going to end well for LSU. LSU will likely get stuck with BK's legal bills too as that is a common contract term when another party fails to fulfill their obligations under the contract. With StonePigman and SkaddenArps, this is going to be a big damn legal bill.
They care greatly. What idiot wouldn't?
You have to believe they are going to make some unconventional demands, not just in terms of money, to protect themselves from meddling politicians, incompetent ADs, future litigation with school, and the definition of “cause”. The next coach’s contract could be far worse than Kelly’s if LSU doesn’t hire an up and comer.

But will someone leave a good existing job, or forgo other good opportunities, to deal with this mess? Not like this is the only other good job out there.
It’s A&M and it’s not even close. That might start changing this year.
Born in Shreveport, left for school (lived in 3 different cities for undergrad and two post grads) and moved right back home. Love it. Surrounded by family and friends old and new.
They never interview coaches on campus. Usually at a neutral location.
Lol. People are looking out for themselves and their familiest, which is a lot more important than their passion for a school (as it should be for all of us). This is a business.

You can see how well your strategy is working with Dabo Swinney.
That’s not true at all. I’m surrounded by conservatives like myself, and they are all pissed at him. I didn’t think it was possible for Landry to piss of the MAGA crowd, especially after they totally ignored his ties to liberal trial lawyers, but he definitely did with his moves this past week. He did the one thing that could make people forget partisan politics in this state.
This is true. I think AD, or head of coach search, is much much more realistic than his coming back to coach in the NIL era.

Interesting thought. This hasn't been talked about at all this week!
Not really. However, teams with nothing to lose can surprise anyone.
One of the dumbest takes of the year. Only a desperate person would take this deal. Reminds me of a relative of mine who kept saying everything was too expensive and then referred to pricing from 10 years ago. You don't understand the market and should be VERY suspicious of anyone that agrees to these terms.
