45/82 54% Completion
4 TDs
3 INTs
5 sacks (0 at ND, 4 vs. Auburn, 1 vs. MSU)

I'd say A&M probably has the highest ceiling of any offense in the SEC if Reed is playing to his potential, but any concerns about the last 3 games in his performance against P4 teams?

Obviously, Reed's legs gave Florida significant problems last year, and that will again be a concern on Saturday.

His accuracy sucks and he has no deep ball. But he has a way of getting it done, especially late.

If he could hit even two of his deep balls a game, and consistently hit 65%, this team could make a deep run.

Definitely concerned. I don't understand how the deep ball is so bad. I have missed 2 games and can still remember overthrowing KC on at least 4 occasions that would have been a TD in stride, or a 40 yard gain with an underthrow.

He is throwing the short/intermediate ball well enough to win, but the deep pass struggles paired with starting each drive with 2 penalties is tough to overcome.

If the defense continues to play the way it has, we'll be in every game, but frustrating to feel so close.

He's just been inconsistent. I think it would help him out a lot if he took more of the "easy" plays that are there to be had (checkdowns, intermediate throws, using his legs more). I don't think he'll ever be the most accurate either way, but can be good enough.

He's not wrong. It is concerning and there is incredible upside. In many games, it seems he gets so amped up he has trouble in the first half only to settle down in the second half to move the ball somewhat consistently.

He gave us problems in every way last year. We couldn't tackle, cover or rush the passer. Other than that it was fine.

Marcel Reed:
Passing - 11/17, 183 YDs, 2 TDs
Rushing - 13 Car, 83 YDs, 1 TD

As good as their defense is, he's a bus driver. Just don't do something stupid that leads to easy points and they will have a chance in most games.

He will have plenty of chances to do that. We play way off the line of scrimmage, so any team that wants to drive the ball methodically down the field on us will have little problems in doing so. Our defense tries to stop the run and not give up big plays though the air. 5-7 yard pass plays are there all day long, and if you can establish the run, it will be a long day for us.

You are always concerned about your QB who lacks consistency. He makes up for if in other ways. Elko stated that he thinks the game speeds up for Reed when he sees an open player on a deep route. If he can get him to take an extra breath before making the pass, Elko thinks it will improve his accuracy. Apparently, Reed has no problem throwing the deep ball in practice. When he misses on a deep pass, he is always overthrowing the receiver.

Why do you question that? We average almost 200 yards per game in rushing and have 2 receivers that are home run threats every time they touch the ball.

We are 22nd in the country and 6th in the SEC in total offense.

We have all that with a QB that ranks 99th in completion percentage, but 36h in passing efficiency.

Considering that his struggle is on passes over 30 yards, imagine how much higher all that is if he starts connnecting on more than 20% of those.

Of course, he's a work in process. I do think that the OC doesn't help him get settled in very well.

I blame the INT against Auburn on Bussey. Sure, the pass was a little high, but he's a 5-star D1 receiver that put both hands on the ball, so it should have been his. If he makes that routine catch, it's a 1st down.

My concern with Reed is that he can't hit receivers in stride on the deep ball. Still, if we can continue to run the ball and play defense the way we have, we can overcome Reed's shortcomings in the deep passing game.

Team has lots of stuff to be concerned about.

If we can be consistent, we will finish the season better than 8-4.

Yeah it’s a concern, because the guys are open. He is just overthrowing a little bit.

But it’s also another gear this offense can get to - if he can just corral his energy and play a little less amped up.

I think he’s got 12-15 starts. So he can still grow (hopefully).

He's also thrown for 750 yards in those three games.

It's possible that Auburn and State are better than people realize, and those are really, really good numbers. We'll see.

He definitely needs to settle for checkdowns more, and he needs to wuit sailing the ball as often.

He overthrows the deepball which he likes to throw and he throws high when he double clutches in uncertainty.

If he can clean those two things up, specifically, this offense could be a lot more dangerous than it is today.

Also he plays better when the pressure is on (mental prrssure not physical).

If he could master touch on the ball, especially on his deep balls, he would be very near lethal. He’s also occasionally misses wide open receivers. Those are his biggest knocks.

He’s not perfect but I will
take what he is with the growing pains.
