Agree that the Ags have underperformed for years.
Aggies have not had a coach that builds a program since Sherrill. There is a long list of coaches between Sherrill and Elko. We will see what Elko can do.
There was also an interesting article last year about how the current AD positions himself between big money donors and Elko (running interference) so that may have been a big issue in the past.
Time will tell.

These are no longer student athletes. Let’s stop pretending they are. This is minor league football.
Nil has destroyed everything I loved about cf. i realize some fans love it but I am not one of them.
I shite on Sark a lot here but the truth is that I really no longer care who coaches us or how many games we win. I will still watch the games when I have nothing better to do but I will try find better things to do on Saturdays this fall.

I think you are an early adapter. I'm not there yet but will soon be unless somehow this gets under control. The portal is a huge issue. Once the players start acting like employees and not college students is when this will unravel. The fans will leave and so will the money.
College football will go the way of NASCAR as they leave their roots behind.

The Portal is the biggest issue with NIL being a close second. Private Equity will just make it worse. All they care about is profit.
Why do we watch college football/sports?
Traditions
Rivalry
Pageantry
Watching kids develop
Pulling for "your" team. Loyalty.
This is all being torn down by the portal and NIL.
Players are now hired guns with no allegiance. Transfer at will.
How can players understand or care about traditions in one year?
A rivalry game is just another game.
Kids transfer at will so you don't have a "next year"....
Your team today isn't the same team next year.
Football schemes will be dumbed down because players can't learn a new system in months.
Once the players start communicating this is a business relationship to the fans, it will become tough to support the teams as we do today. Wait until you hear a player opting out regular season games because they are transferring.
I hope it doesn't but I believe it will happen.

Yes. I think they are that far apart.
IMO there is Saban, and maybe a handful of others that are getting there, who can win consistently and all the others that have to catch lightening in a bottle with a great player.
Dabo - Lawrence
Jimbo - Winston
Meyer - Tebow
Coon A$$ - Burrow
Mack Brown - Young
Kirby, Day, and maybe Cignetti may be getting there.

Not yet but close.
The portal is primarily killing everything that makes college football great.
Rivalries, tradition, pride in a school, watching kids develop, thinking your school has a really good class of recruits turning into juniors that have experience, is all going away primarily due to the portal.
Hell, no one on this board can say "next year should be pretty good" because no one knows who's playing!
These kids who are portal seniors chasing money don't have the 3-4 past years of history with rivalries may not care as much and it MAY get to the point where it doesn't matter. They certainly won't learn (and appreciate) traditions in a year.
When the fans sense this, I think overall support could fall.

From a fan base perspective, Texas T shirt fans are the worst and there isn't anyone close. There were also multiple instances at the stadium where the TU faithful showed there arse at the A&M game. It was beyond bad.
ND, as an administration, really stepped in it by opting out. That is about as bad a look as anyone can have. I wonder if Freeman is leaving for the NFL and pushed for this to get to NY as soon as possible?

Ole Miss has no leverage. What are they going to do? If they fire him and pay him off, he leaves for sure. He has all the options.
In the meantime, he is going to upset a lot of people after this is over. Two fan bases are going to be really pissed.
He has done a great job at Ole Miss. Is he the best coach in college football? Not right now he’s not.

The battered Aggie comment made me spit up my diet Dr Pepper at lunch.....Well done!

To answer your question, no.
When will the public begin to understand that these generational salaries being paid to coaches are public money meaning belonging to the state. Quite frankly, this has been out of control for years and sooner or later the public will figure it out.

3 O-line players drafted and poor portal choices.
As for Arch, I wonder how much pressure was on the coaches to play him by the big donors that paid $6M a year for him.... Sark, and his coaching staff, may have not had much of a choice to play him over Ewers.
Note: Sark and those coaches may have been pushing the decision to pay Arch $6M also.....

He might be a decent guy outside of football but he acted like a complete tool last weekend.
I am giving him the benefit of the doubt after seeing him walk off the field with his daughter Saturday.

This is a good observation.
Of course if you enter the meat grinder, sign the right contract and fail, you walk away with generational money and your grand kids won't have to work.

re: If you are a coach and your only goal is a NC, do you choose LSU, UF, or Texas?
Posted by AG87 on 11/18/25 at 7:52 am to FireDanMullen
I think Texas has too many cooks in the kitchen trying to make the meal. Look at the decision to start Archie versus Ewers this year. There is no way that team is as bad with Ewers. Donors have too much control at Texas.
LSU has had more recent success winning championships but look at where they are now and how they are treating their last coach.
FL had some success with Spurrier and with Meyer but they are going through coaches every three years.
I have no idea where I'd go.

OP is right (I hope).
I do understand. Per AI, we averaged 30.38 points per game in 2024 and are now averaging 37.8 points per game in 2025. There is always room for improvement (and the competition has changed along with the Aggie offense) but they seem to be getting better. Hope it continues.

Utrans played the same schedule this year as last only they traveled this year. in 2024, TU had 3 road games away, Vandy, Arky, and ATM (excluding neutral site OK). Daunting first year schedule....
Since joining the conference Utrans has not played LSU, O Miss, or Alabama.
No one anticipated Florida's or Auburn's downfall or Vandy's rise when the schedules were set 3 years ago, nor did we anticipate you having to go to OT to beat Miss State and KY.
So instead of bitching with your 1 and 2/3rd's years of SEC experience, why don't you teach your beloved fans, from the formerly #1 team in the nation, not to chant "over rated" after beating Vandy at home this year. Nice job Sips. No hypocrisy here!

Kirby doesn’t even know how to clap (or call a time out).
Agreed with the portal movement. Any team can hit a home run or strike out in the portal.
The only thing you can count on the coaching staff to coach up whatever talent they bring in and that may not show until later in the season.
I think we will continue to see simpler systems allowing portal players to pick up the system quicker. The more complex the scheme, the harder it is for new portal players to adjust to.

re: Is Texas the best 7-2 team in the country?
Posted by AG87 on 11/10/25 at 8:46 am to sorantable
This is true and unbelievable. The talking heads commonly leave out the loss to FL and talk about playing the #1 team in the country week 1. They also forget to mention going to OT with Miss St and Ky. I get it. A win is a win but are they the best 2 loss team in the country? Doubtful.
I really wish you'd stop this crap.
We play SC next, then Samford, and then yes, we play the sips and to say that game doesn't mean anything is ridiculous.
Regardless of where teams are record wise, that game will always mean something and if you don't recognize that, you didn't go to A&M or TU. TU will say that OK is their rival but go to their boards, and there is a 1700+ page thread on the Ags. Just stop.
