The topic is on the table to end the sec conference title game other this year or next many believe it serves no purpose with the playoffs .

So how do we know who won the conference? Are we going back to the days of co-conference champions?

Exactly.
We're so large now that the only way for there to be a true champ (most seasons) is if we do away with OOC games and just play 13 IC games. Then every team will have played each other.
A 3-way tie is still possible, but right now you could have two teams who are both undefeated in conference play and never play each other.

Well, except for the millions and millions of dollars it generates for the conference.

Just leave the last conference game on everyone’s schedule as TBD. #1 plays #2, #2 plays #3, etc…

The vast majority of the time both teams playing in the game will make the playoffs, that alone makes it extremely underwhelming.

The whole point of expanding past 10 in the first place was to have a title game. I wouldn't be surprised if stupid Sankey did it.

"Millions & millions of dollars". Exactly. That's a lot of money left on the table if there is no game.

Cut the season down to 10 games. Eliminate the conference championship game.
Institute a 64 team playoff.
If two teams finished tied and they did not play each other, then you simply have co-champions.

It must have been a Freudian slip.

It’s possible that all conferences drop that championship game with a 14-16 team Playoff. The SEC is the only conference that generates a lot of interest, and right now most teams do not want to play it if they can get in the playoffs without it.

I like "The SEC officials are fired up having second thoughts about having to play a conference championship" better!

Exactly. I read it was about $50MM. There’s zero chance that the “hire ups” walk away from that kind of money.
