Try getting a softball ticket anywhere other than the Brickyard. Softball draws great crowds. They are not making a profit, but softball os not a drain on the athletics budget. Same with gymnastics.

Fland’s agent Mike Miller played at Florida- thus the Florida predictions for Boogie.

Agree. Either he is hurt, or he is getting bad advice from his agent. I would think the NBA teams would want to see up close a borderline 1st/ 2nd round player actually play,

we whiffed on keeping any of Reid, Naas, or Mo

“Whiffed”? If Naas even had an offer to return, it was for as minimum as can be. We agreed to every pay raise Mo wanted until Ky offered him $1.2 million and starting, which no way would we pay a tough, hard working guy who missed so many assignments we developed “off road” (meaning iff the scouting report) packages for him and had to keep him at 16 minutes a game at best. Reid was happy here, but his mother and handlers never were. You would not agree to their demands either. Wish those guys the best, Rylan too, but coaches have to run the program.

He averaged 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists last year. Also those rankers are not coaches. Nobody here had ever heard of Aaron Estrada, Mark Sears, Grant Nelson, or Latrell Wrightsell- who was ranked a good bit lower than Jones but finished his first year at Bama ranked 14th nationally in offensive efficiency. The coaches know what they want.

I’m going to MSG 100%

Me too. Making a weekend out of it with the wife. There are some Bama alum sports bars in NYC to watch the football game. Big game, but I’ve seen lots of Bama/LSU football games in BD Stadium. Never seen us play hoops in MSG. Plus I long for a pastrami on Rye from Katz’s Deli and some good jazz at Iridium or Birdland.

It is nonsense. Cal got Fland to Kentucky last year for $750K- reportedly. Maybe Cal upped it a little when they both transferred to Arkansas. Did Fland improve his value to $7 million this year by sitting out most of the year, but playing well early and late in the year? No doubt Boogie pulled out of the draft because he can make more in college than his draft projections say he will in the G League, but $7 million. Doesn’t make sense. Of course Kentucky has already spent over $20 million this spring.

We are not going to pay any one of these star transfers $3.5 million. That’s what Haggerty from Memphis wants (down from $4 million). The House settlement supposedly will require verification of NIL awards according to market value. This year teams’ billionaire boosters are just tossing out money to likely overvalued players.

I’ve flown into White Plains to beat the chaos of the big airports. You can catch the train into the city easy there.

Yes, but many of us - definitely me - said dumbass things when we were 20. The parable of the prodigal son still has meaning.

O hope we go ahead and sign Rylan. From what I gather, Coward was a big NIL package, and Duke pays more than almost anyone else, so I’m not confident about him.

Why the hell would he need to visit?

To meet team members he doesn’t know and to talk business with Oats and Murphy.
Colleges should do exactly what the NFL and NBA do. Hire players with contracts that have salary caps, free agency time lines, all the restrictions a professional contract has. The Nfl and Nba do not get sued.

Right. And freshman signee 6’6” Davion Hannah can do all that and play tough defense. Amari Allen too. We do need another point/ combo guard, but those two freshmen can get to the hoop and score.
Philon and Petiford are both late 1st/ early 2nd round picks. Both are really good but likely will play a few years in the G league before moving up to the big league- like JD Davison just did.

re: Nico had a contract with UT, right?

Supposedly contracts are coming with the House settlement. Of course, for every contract there is a law suit.

infers you are paying these guys for their value as a commodity

You are right about that. I was thinking in terms of their doing ads for businesses. Supposedly the House settlement will require documentation of services to receive NIL pay. We’ll see.
