did you even click on the tweet. Kelly was asked: "Where are you right now w/the defensive line recruiting?"

To which Kelly responded: "It hasn't fared quite well very frankly because we're selling something a little bit differently..."

LSU may not be buying players but that is only because they are trying to buy players and are failing

Have you idiots bothered to check our recruiting class for next year? If we don't have NIL money then explain to me how we have the #1 player in the country locked in and he's from Michigan of all places. Now, Kelly's strategy may suck and it's not looking good, but its unreasonable to pay Damonic Williams more than any player on your team and more than many of your coaches.

Kelly said he wouldn't get dragged into a bidding war and that his program is selling something else. Sounds like LSU is going to resemble the last 2 years on defense.

Without knowing all the latest numbers of each school, it doesn't look like top collectives are even competing without at least 10 million in the NIL budget this year.

LSU fans talking about their high school recruiting are not serious people. All of your high school recruits won’t pan out and some will leave. You will have roster holes that you need to fill via the portal.

And I'm sure if you could you would buy all the 5* football players.

Could? I guess you think LSU is broke.

No one’s buying what Blake Baker and his sidekick are selling ?

I’m shocked. Stunned even.

What is this bullshite?

Baker is a good coach.

The dt got about 1.5 mil to go to ou. Had nothing to do with scheme or coaching. His "uncle" is a real class guy.

Paying Walter Nolen makes sense.
Paying Damonic Williams more than Nolen is just silly. That’s the problem with schools who don’t know how to play the portal game.

This is what people need to understand about what he's referring to "buying" players.

We are not going to upset 80 other players currently on the team because we went out and promised a good but nothing special DT like Williams $1.5M for 1 year in NIL. It's just bad culture precedent at that point.

I hope people arent actually naive enough to think the players dont talk constantly about what NIL they are getting and how they are getting it. It's 1 thing to earn what you get, like a Jayden Daniels or Malik Nabers, it's another to say I wont even come there unless I'm promised the moon with frankly not even proving you're worth near that with a guy like Damonic Williams.

As far as the DL goes, we got the rotational guy from Wisconsin Paez, we will still go out and get another 1 or 2 in the portal in the end. There's still some players out there, for example Adin Huntington from ULM. A player like Williams is not worth what he was asking especially if it can easily cause culture issues in the program itself accepting a guy like that with what he's demanding.

Another school in a similar position is ND

ND is shelling out 6 figures for incoming low 4*s. They’ve outbid several SEC/B1G teams for key recruits.

But should your head coach send that statement out into the public domain? It sounds like you want these kids to know very clearly what tree you're barking up.

Old-school head coaches and fans hate this stuff, but the last thing any school can advertise is that they aren't open for business.

bullshite.

What he's actually saying is come to LSU and take less than market value, because like every program in this conference, we think we're special and worth taking less money for.

Kelly coughed up a bunch of car lot bullshite in that interview and every coach in this conference has some version of it, on deck and ready to go.

Money matters and the only thing Brian Kelly has shown in all this, is that he's not ready to manage an NIL roster.

McKinley might be great. But to depend on a true freshman on DL in the SEC isn’t a good look.

This is true. Some freshman DL get playing time. Some rare gems play well and start. Almost none are difference makers their first year. It’s a war in the trenches.

Kelly says no to 2 DLs that were out shopping for a big payday.

They said no to LSU because LSU doesn’t have the funds to get top guys nor the staff to coach up guys in their price range. They blew too much on gymnastics, and women’s basketball. It’s a budgeting issue with a coaching issue for funsies.

If LSU was standing on principle and not seeing big (relative to sport/game) NIL deals then sure, fight the hood fight. But 2 million to get Daniels from ASU? Nabers got half a million, etc. makes Kelly a hypocrite. When they had money they spent it.

Brian Kelly has never seemed to put an emphasis on defensive line play. Which may also be one reason he has never won a national championship.

There are less SEC quality defensive linemen recruits/transfers than any other position and you need a stable of them. Skill players win individual trophies. Interior linemen win championship trophies.
