Steve Marshall was the initial OL Coach in '07 but left for the Browns after a few weeks.
Joe Pendry was his mentor and actually recommended Marshall, as many thought Pendry was walking into the sunset and calling it a career.
I don't recall anyone hired before Applewhite for OC.

Well one of my all time favorite CNS quote is,
"You know what my goal with spring practice is? Get the right guys on the bus, get them in the right seats, and get the wrong guys off the bus." Saban
In this case, goes for coaches too! I'd rather them leave now then half-arse it all season looking for greener pastures. I have full faith in De-man's offense ability. (ALL the interest we've garnered from that side of the ball drive that point home.)
Just GOT TO nail an OL coach that can develop and recruit.

Ron Middleton left for Duke at some point in 2007. I can’t recall if it was prior to the season though.

I am content bringing in up and coming guys or promoting the same within. Nowadays the seasoned guys seem to always be looking for a steppingstone on their way to the next job or like we are seeing now do not want to stick around and go to the NFL.
This is a new chapter for UA football and ready to embrace it with realistic expectations. Which by the way still feel we can make the playoffs next year.

Honestly I think OLC is the more important hire. OL play not defense ultimately cost Alabama two national titles at the end of Saban’s career. Yes, defense took a step back but it was porous OLs that relied on physically outmatching their opponents alone with poor technique that robbed Saban of having two more national titles in the 2020s.

Hmmmmmm
So you consider hiking the ball to the QB and not in random directions part of the.... *checks notes*....
Technique.
Interesting.

It’s a rudimentary one but a technique nonetheless.

Nobody.

I have not read this entire thread- does anyone know why DeBear was not more interested in Kirby Moore ?
I'm assuming it's because he only coached QB's for a season or two and played WR when he played, but there is no denying he has talent as a play caller, and his QB showed great improvement over the season.
As others have pointed out Sheridan has not been overly impressive in this role in the past. Once outside the script things will get interesting.

I don't think they really run the same offense. Moore's offense is much more Chris Peterson/Boise than DeBoer's system. I'm sure he has some of DeBoer's stuff in his playbook, but just from watching them play (and looking at the formations/run pass splits) he seems to line up a lot more with the Boise part of his past than the short DeBoer period.
I like Moore and his system a lot, but I always found it a bit interesting to see him linked here. It'd be a serious shift.

Nunez as ST coach. Just saw on Twitter so not sure how old this info is

I feel like the OL coaching search has been abnormally quiet. I don’t think I’ve seen even a single name mentioned across any of the Bama related accounts/ media I follow (this site included). Maybe because it’s a lower profile position to fill than OC, DC, etc.? Just interesting how little chatter there’s been amongst the “experts” or “those in the know.” As others in this thread have said, this hire seems more crucial, to me, than filling the OC position.

What’s the over under on this fan base learning the correct spelling of Kalen DeBoer?
3 years? 5 years?

Longer. Some were still misspelling Saban after 17 years.

I'm never changing from DeBear. It's funny on several levels to me.

Who was hired as OC before Applewhite, who was youngest OC in FBS at the time?

It is funny on several levels? What levels? Is one of those levels Alabama idiot can’t spell simple words correctly?

Well said...even though I knew how bad Indiana's offense had gotten. The OC was far from the main problem though.
I'll let you win on that one.
