Not a particularly exciting OL coach hire, but I guess we will just see how it goes.

Coached with Fedora at USM/UNC for a decade and had good numbers in rush YPA and sacks allowed. Was apparently Lincoln Riley's first choice at USC.
Don't know anything else about him. Seems like he's put up good numbers when coaching in spread offenses.

Looking at where he's been, he's been an OL coach a long time. Was at North Carolina, Southern Miss, Missouri State. The most interesting was he was OL coach at Alabama State for 5 years, and was also their OC for several years. He's currently the OL coach at Baylor. So he should have experience recruiting across the Southeast.

Apparently, he's known as a great recruiter.

Michigan State fans shite all over him.when Baylor hired him, and they are doing the same now. The numbers kind of back them up.
2019 Colorado: 99th rushing offense
2020 MSU: 123rd rushing offense
2021 MSU: 53rd rushing offense
2022 MSU: 111th rushing offense
2023 MSU: 127th rushing offense
He was the OL coach and running game coordinator. He had Kenneth fricking Walker and his best was 53rd? That's troublesome...

Anyone with opinion on Brian Ellis new TE coach. He was OC and QB coach from Georgia Southern.

First DeBoer hire I straight up dislike. The TE coach hire looks intriguing though.

Looks like his numbers were much better with spread offenses like Fedora's.

I think it all boils down to scheme and talent with any offensive line coach.

Love to see the recruiting classes he had to work with at CO and MSU.

Does anyone feel like maybe someone with the board of directors, boosters, etc. are suggesting these hires? Or maybe it's the board trying to lower the financial cost of paying top coaches and instead funnel it into our NIL fund?
Ellis' alma mater being UAB as well as where he was a GA. Maybe has connections with someone at U.A.
I think Chris Kapilovic is one of the higher paid OL coaches, around 1million, so maybe tapping Sheridan as the oc was to get more money in the budget for the OL coach?
I'm just spitballing things is all, don't jump on me about it. lol, Just makes me curious about these less flashy hires being made to replace someone like Grubb, Huff, etc.

Board of Directors?? surely you jest.

One thing for certain is the type of coaches K.Deboer hires. None are what I would call "known power house recruiters" and very few ties with recruiting in SEC country. The only ones I see being in the top 100 would Roach and Gillespie.
Saban owned recruiting in Florida and did pretty well pulling kids from Georgia to Texas.

I wondering about this in the other thread. Did Mich St not run a spread offense?

"Board of Directors?? surely you jest."
Well it was well known Saban came in and immediately took control over the Alabama football program away from the trustees, boosters, and other administrators who had been involved. Just curious if Deboer is allowing any type of influence from those types of sources.
I know it's too early to tell and I could be absolutely wrong. I just enjoyed someone like Saban coming in and saying "this is what we're doing, get the "frick" out of my way".

Color me naive, but I'd think hiring Sheridan was likely due to DeBoer's familiarity with his abilities, and how he'd fit into his plans. Sheridan is apparently a capable QB coach, Penix followed him to Washington, after all.

Yes we shall see how it plays out. Surely Coach knows that in SEC country recruiting is king. You keep up or get left behind. Im trying to be optimistic and give him time so we shall see

I think the plan all along was to hire someone to call his (Deboers) offense that he trusts / can oversee/ advise . It was never to hire someone to come in an implement an offense

Well it was definitely the most convenient hire to go with Sheridan. I still believe if we're hiring with the intention to do damage to other SEC schools and money is no object, we go get someone like AJ Milwee if we're just trying to get a q.b. coach and oc in name only or Kirby Moore if we're trying to find familiarity along with sec ties.
