I think we need to stick with the best 5 (that doesn’t include Formby) for them to get on the same page and go with Hill and Riley. Hill will most likely not hit any big runs but he hits the hole and gets positive yards.

Agree. And Hill doesn’t even need to get big yards. If he can keep us on schedule, that is nearly as effective and will force the defense to (somewhat) respect the run. 3-5 yards consistently on first downs gives us a shite ton of optionality on 2nd and 3rd.
Id love to see DeBoer/Grubb/Kap explain this one in film review.

RG was slanting left but also got shoved back by their DT.

RT gets to the 2nd level but can't make the block.

TE comes in for the wham block on the DE but there is no hole.

LG basically takes on a double team and held up ok.

The CB is also coming downhill from the outside.

Sadly this play was just bad all the way around. If they check out and Ty throws it up top it should be an easy first down.

This looks to me like the run was designed to go left - all OL immediately slide left at the snap; Cuevas seals the back side. Jam gets the snap, plants with his right foot and starts moving to the left, then started running slightly up the middle just after the first cutback to the left (he probably thought the running lane to the left that was supposed to be there got blown up; he’s not totally wrong). Jam then cuts it back to the right side, running off of Cuevas’s block. Play dead just after that.

- On the C, LG, & LT:
- - Brailsford fires out left immediately after the snap, gets to the second level and demolishes the LSU LBer. Good job 72.
- - post-snap, LG engages with the DT over him and the right-side LSU edge defender (lined up on the LOS just outside of Proctor) immediately crashes in to double team the LG. The LG looks like he initially begins to twist and seal the DT but then switches off and chases the crashing LSU Edge defender outside, and both the LG and DE/Edge were essentially run out of the play. The DT Dewberry initially engaged recovered and filled the running lane to the left.
- - I think 74 should have either engaged, or at least chipped, LSUs right-side DE/Edge (on the double team the LG was dealing with). If you engage him, you handle the LSU DE at least, and maybe get to the second level to engage the DB that Proctor initially went after right out of the gate. If you don’t get to the block on the DB here, at least the RB has to make only him miss. If Proctor’s main assignment was the DB coming up, at least chip the LSU Edge defender hard as shite and knock him on his arse (as he was already off balance from the snap and even ended up stumbling once he got to Dewberry) so the LG can neutralize the DT like he was initially doing rather than worry about handling the double team.

- on RG and RT:
- - RG starts to slant left but gets knocked off his spot and back a bit (by about a yard). If Roberts was stronger at the point of attack just after the ball was snapped, or even was able to recover and get a down block on the DT he was engaged with (or seal him to the right), there would have been a nice running lane on the left if the C-LT executed like described above.
- - RT Formby.. I have no clue.. no words. That was just bad. Had we run left, his mishap wouldn’t have even mattered, but that was sad - he must straight up whiffed.

- - Cuevas actually did an adequate job of sealing his guy on the back side (or what should have been the back side of the play)

*Disclaimer: I’m not expert about OL technique and blocking schemes. But this makes sense to me.

I don’t think any of our DL commits are all that big. I seem to recall they’re all in the 240-260 lb range, which is way too small. They’ll need to add 25-40 lbs or get killed out there.

Jeremiah Beaman was a 260lb DT/Edge as a senior in HS. He was playing at 315 twelve months later.

Maybe not to the extent of Beaman, but the guys we have committed on DL for this cycle will certainly put on some weight when they get here.

So you'd like to see all of the backups.

I will say, Noah Carter had some serious burst off the edge on the plays he got in vs. SC. Bright future for him.

Noticed LSU has some pretty big kids that are highly rated on the DL. Did any of them show Bama any interest?

No clue if he has any interest, but Rich Anderson should be the one we go after the hardest. Dude is a force in the middle.
Love the melt. He ain’t wrong though. But you don’t need to display your thoughts like a retarded person does. Unless…

lol who have they played?! They avoided Georgia, Bama, Ole Miss, and Tennessee

re: Ok Womack time to go

Go look what Pruitt has done to defenses since like 2010. They all sky rocketed in defensive performance/statistics. Don’t give a frick what kind of relationship CKD has with Wommack, if Pruitt is eligible and available we should bring him onto the staff.

Edit: Will give credit to Wommack and company, they have nutted up when we have needed them most. Though I do think another coordinator with SEC-level experience would have us looking borderline dominant.
#6 was good. #93 made enough plays to where I want him on our squad. They both made today tough for our guys that’s for sure.
This team can be really frickin good but just not have had all three units clicking at the same time. Offense didn’t do shite for most of today. Defense stepped up in key moments but was very frustrating to watch at times.
Agreed. It was ugly but they took it. The people expecting blowouts week after week are delusional. Even under Saban that didn’t happen.

quote: GTF out I see no lies. A loss today puts us unlikely to make a 12-team Playoff for the second straight year. He didn’t have this team ready to play today. He’s losing to an inferior opponent for the 5th or 6th time already in just his second year.

“Losing” but won
We need these two weeks. This team has walked through the shadow of the valley of the death and came out the other side the baddest mfer in the valley. Ugly win but defense gutted up.

Alabama 31 South Carolina 34

If this happens, Wommack will be crucified and rightfully so. He’s done OK overall this season. Some stuff good, some stuff bad, some stuff atrocious. It’s not all on him though; certain players have shown some piss poor execution throughout the year.

That said, South Carolina’s offense is terrible. Near rock bottom of the league. Sellers has looked pretty mediocre this year in the times I’ve seen him play and did not look effective running the ball. Giving up 34 in a loss to this SCar offense (especially if that includes us not being able to contain Sellers on the ground at all) would be unforgivable.

I’m going 28-13 Tide. Pierre continues to cause havoc and Overton has a big day.

62 for Horton.

If he falls off a little then it’s very much up in the air.

He won’t. Between the ears, he’s on an NFL level. Crazy good arm talent too. There has not been a throw this year that he’s made where I’ve gone “damn if only the ball had a little more pop out of his hand…” the dude has had been consistently good with multiple times a game making “wow” plays. We’ve got him for a few more games and then CKD has Keelon Russell in the hopper.

DeBoer has done well getting the team up for ranked opponents for the second year in a row. It sounds weird to say, but next week will be a big litmus test for DeBoer. He is 1-4 so far when playing away from home against unranked teams.

Sounds like we need to rack it up with ranked opps going forward Lol. Keep the two TD dogs away from us and we’re golden.
Wholeheartedly agree, however…

Having a true QB has really made this season much more enjoyable to watch.

Let’s not forget that Ty is playing at an elite level, which has saved us a lot of heartache this year. Nussmeier is a true QB, and we’d have multiple losses with him throwing the rock for us. Ty is doing things in the passing game that not many other dudes out there right now can replicate. Not trying to play contrarian or anything like that, just want to give Simpson his due credit because he’s made a lot of truly incredible passes. I can’t imagine how good he would be at this point of the season had he started/played meaningful minutes last year.
The Process also became a watered down version compared to what it was at the beginning of the Saban era. Players in the early years of the Saban era had to endure the consequences of their actions, and often came out on the other side a better player/man because of it. The free flowing transfer portal gave the prima donas a quick and easy route out. This is why our mental and physical toughness dwindled towards the end of the Saban tenure.
