That’s bullshite! If they know who it is, they need to announce it now so I can get some work done

Same but not hearing the tonite part. Not hearing any timeframe. But any of what you may consider “my sources” have been out of loop for a long time are just repeating second hand info

That would be great! I don’t want to hold my breath for it, but I’m hopeful.

My burn a bridge source said he will know soon. I straight up asked him if it was DeBoar and that was his reply.

So he was meeting with the AD to get his daughter out of her LOI. Well, well, well. Lady DeBoer how would you like your NIL deal structured .

Just shut the program down if that's all we can choose from

This is a layman's opinion, but in my view it seems that Dabo Swinney has peaked. Like the modern/contemporary developments in college football (NIL, portal) passed him by without him being willing, and therefore not being able, to adopt to them. What a huge difference with Saban, who always identified the issue and then adapted whether he liked it or not.
Do I think Dabo can win and win big at Alabama? Yes, I do. He has the coaching pedigree and the ties to and knowlegde of Alabama. But he's not my preference, because he seems outdated.
I liked Lanning, because he's young and modern yet experienced enough to take on a big(ger) program like Bama. Also, I figured he would continue Saban's style of tough, hardnosed football (especially on defense). And finally, I figured he would bring his buddy Glen Schumann with him (because being DC at Bama is better than being co-DC at Uga with Will Musschamp).
The thing that I have to keep reminding myself of is that this hire is unlike all the OC, DC, etc. we've gone through before. Saban is not the head coach and as the great mitigating factor who can (and would) often compensate whatever flaws the assistant would have. What I'm trying to say is that this new HC has to be the compete package. And to me right now that is Kalen DeBoer. His drawback, from what I read here, is perceived to be recruiting. That could be addressed by asking Saban somewhat around as recruiting consultant (I know Saban will probably move to TV/analyst or something, but one can hope).
Now, Lane Kiffin has the attitude, confidence and swagger to survive as the first post-Saban head coach and the big shoes he has to fill. But has he proven to be absolutely elite as a coach, for instance by beating Saban or top ranked programs? And his move to hire Pete Golding was just stunning and IMO a major red flag. Pete Golding turned Bama's vaunted and feared defense into a perennial vanilla defense. So why on earth hire PG? Just weird.
As for Tommy Reese, I don't take any talk about that seriously. The guy just came along as an OC and he's not even ready to be HC at a lower tier program. He'd crash and burn as Bama's HC.
So, DeBoer is my preference. He seems to most complete package. His lack of recruiting prowess/lack-of-Southern-ties can be compensated by surrounding him with the right people.

For what it’s worth there are accounts on twitter saying that Kalen Deboer will be announced by 2:00 pm this afternoon.

I know the football job is different from the basketball job and it’s not even really close… but we didn’t hear a peep out of Byrne/the AD until they announced Oats, surprising everyone. It’s been similarly quiet this time around.
I’d be more surprised if he hired someone that’s already been mentioned than someone completely off the radar. DeBoer, Norvell… they just don’t seem to fit for various reasons. I could obviously be wrong, but Byrne isn’t an idiot either. He’s proven to make solid hires thus far, even if replacing Nick Saban is an entirely different situation, I think his process stays somewhat similar.
If they asked for 72 hours, they clearly had a plan of some kind in place. Maybe that plan went to shite, but until proven otherwise, I’ll hold onto the “sky is falling” posts. The thing I feel most confident in at the moment is that everything being thrown at the wall right now is just that, an outlet trying to find something to stick.

I think it's a huge let down to from Saban to Deboer... That's just not what I'd expected to follow the goat and carry his program forward.

You wasted your burn a bridge source on this? Why not ask him about DeBoer!?

Deboer is exactly the type of hire Byrne would make. He was always my dark horse primarily because of how much he fits the Oats hiring archetype.

Everything about DeBoer points to him being successful but man I can't shake the Harsin vibes.
I trust Byrne if he's the guy though.

The only guy who could’ve possibly not being a drop off after Saban is Smart and there was ZERO chance of that happening
