Running base 4-2-5 is not the same though as running base 3-4 and moving to heavy nickel. The player types recruited and the way you coach up those players can vary widely.

Players are going to hit the portal, this team was not going to keep everyone if Smart had been announced minutes after Saban retired.

Many players will. Doesn't mean they are gone, but if they are smart the good ones are going NIL hunting.

No one is coming down from the NFL anymore, it's just not worth it with the crazy hours and NFL salaries.
So I once again ask, what coaches are you thinking fit all 5 criteria?

He also is a pretty damn sexy hire. What he has done with the offense everywhere he has gone is nothing short of amazing while being a hell of an in game coach.
Mal had time, there is no time in the modern coaching market. Especially with the portal opening immediately.

What did you expect? Sark to leave Texas or Kirby to leave UGA?
Hell, sark isn't even the home run garauntee.

Deboer is exactly the type of hire Byrne would make. He was always my dark horse primarily because of how much he fits the Oats hiring archetype.

For sure, but post playoff run the rumor have been that Washington was offering 70m over 8 years but with a much bigger buyout. Sure looks to me like he is shopping for a top program (rumors previously were Michigan was his target if harbaugh goes NFL).

He also became Kalen Deboers agent this past year. Not gonna lie, the fact Deboers refused to sign the extension from washing for what's been months at this point has got me pondering.
I was blessed enough to get to share all but '22 and '23 with my father before he passed. He grew up in the Bear years and as his mind went from early onset Alzheimers he became obsessed with watching bama games, watching recordings of past games all of the time. I am forever grateful for the joyous memories I've had celebrating national championships with my dad, first living at home and then over the phone when I moved away to the Capstone.

I'd be thrilled if so.

Lost my father to early onset Alzheimers the summer of '22. Wouldn't wish what we he went through on anyone, I certainly hope that the various speculation I've seen about it aren't true, but my heart goes out to their family if it is.

I could almost see it as the interim.
I was thinking Les.

Lanning would be huge, basically anybody following Saban is going to disappoint, but Lanning is one of the few candidates who it feels like can create a strong winning identity that isn't just a slow decline.

That's definitely never happened to any other good coach.
Norvell is my dark horse. I think he is a hell of a coach and a recruiter.
NFL schedule is way less demanding, the work life balance in the NFL is much better than it is for college with the recruiting component.
