Now that Grubb is officially out at Seattle, I'm officially wishfull thinking him re-joining Alabama and bringing the O-line coach with him. Hopefully mrs Grubb will have come to appreciate job stability by now and OK the move back to Tuscaloosa.
Further confirmation that Grubb's on the hot seat in Seattle:
quote:

One other offensive coordinator who could get the gate is Seattle Seahawks OC Ryan Grubb.

Grubb was well-respected, and much-studied, by NFL folks in his past couple of years as the University of Washington’s OC. But his scheme has been lacking in the run game and has put Geno Smith in too many straight drop-back situations. Which, with the Seahawks line’s issues, have turned Smith into a sitting duck too often.

Both Sports Illustrated and ESPN published new mock drafts today. Mock drafts are to be taken with a grain of salt, I know, but fwiw:
-SI has Jalen Milroe drafted at no. 8, which is crazy high, but to the Cleveland Browns, who are known for making crazy decisions regarding their quarterbacks:
LINK
-ESPN has Milroe dropping out of the 1st round altogether:
LINK
Mel Kiper had Milroe in his top 10 for a while. After the OU game Milroe dropped like a stone to the end of the 1st round. Now he's out.

Regardless, I assume he declares. No doubt he'll put up impressive numbers at the Combine and test well in all physical areas. He comes across as mature and a leader so I expect him to interview well also. His drawbacks have been very visibly on display, but he could go late first round to a team with a good QB coach which thinks they can coach him up.
With a gazillion melt-threads on this board, the recruiting thread feels like a safe haven.

From espn: LINK

"Ivan Taylor, CB (Winter Garden, Florida)

ESPN 300 rank: No. 41
Position rank: No. 5 CB

Committed to: Michigan Wolverines

Recruitment intel: Taylor, the son of two-time Super Bowl champion Ike Taylor, flipped his commitment from Notre Dame to Michigan in July. Could the agile defensive back flip again between now and the early signing period?

The latest: As the 2025 cycle winds down, Taylor is in touch with two programs: Michigan and Alabama. The Crimson Tide have kept up their recruitment of Taylor since his commitment to Michigan with co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Colin Hitschler leading the charge, and Taylor is expected to visit Alabama again this fall.

For now, Taylor remains the crown jewel of Sherrone Moore's inaugural class at Michigan. But Kalen DeBoer and Alabama are working hard to lure Taylor to the Crimson Tide's second-ranked 2025 class, and questions will persist as long as Taylor's recruitment remains open this fall."

Nick Saban anecdote from after the loss in the ULM game in 2007:

"On Monday, Saban shared a humorous story from the time shortly after the loss to the Warhawks. Saban was at a gas station when an attendant asked about his ring. “Well, it’s a national championship ring from LSU,” Saban quipped. “We’re gonna do the same thing at Alabama.” “The guys said, ‘we’ll never do it as long as that Nick Saban is the coach.’”

This is the espn piece where Saban identifies some of the issues the contributed to his decision to retire:
LINK

"I want to be clear that wasn't the reason, but some of those events certainly contributed," Saban said of his decision to retire. "I was really disappointed in the way that the players acted after the game. You gotta win with class. You gotta lose with class. We had our opportunities to win the game and we didn't do it, and then showing your arse and being frustrated and throwing helmets and doing that stuff ... that's not who we are and what we've promoted in our program."

Once back in Tuscaloosa, as Saban began meeting with players, it became even more apparent to him that his message wasn't resonating like it once did.

"I thought we could have a hell of a team next year, and then maybe 70 or 80 percent of the players you talk to, all they want to know is two things: What assurances do I have that I'm going to play because they're thinking about transferring, and how much are you going to pay me?" Saban recounted. "Our program here was always built on how much value can we create for your future and your personal development, academic success in graduating and developing an NFL career on the field.

"So I'm saying to myself, 'Maybe this doesn't work anymore, that the goals and aspirations are just different and that it's all about how much money can I make as a college player?' I'm not saying that's bad. I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just saying that's never been what we were all about, and it's not why we had success through the years."

Ty Haywood Committed !!!!
Another recruit who Alabama paid just to commit while he's silently committed to sign elsewhere.
With Cunningham on board, Bama now has four 5-star recruits on the 247 Composite ranking.

Our per recruit average on the 247 Composite got bumped to a whopping 94,44:

I get the Akylin Dear reference. Are there any more clues about who we are agettin'?
Caleb Cunningham on why he chose Alabama:

quote:

"Having that great quarterback and I think 'Bama is a great fit for me because Keelon Russell," he said after his official visit.

"It is very exciting," Cunningham talked about the future duo this week. "He is a guy who is in my class and will give me the ball. That is what I want. Keelon is the person to do that!"
With thanks to you PRB for posting the link in the Surge-thread, I'm reposting the link again for those who had not seen Saban's speech (like me).

Many thanks for posting/linking the speech!

What a blessing to listen to this man, coach Saban, talk. And what a blessing that this man, this coach, was Head Coach at the University of Alabama for 17 years. I can't imagine how many lives he touched and positively impacted and affected over this period (and prior to that) as a coach, a mentor and a leader.

The knowlegde and wisdom that Saban has is just off the charts. Also how he shared the credits and success he's had. Very impressive.

the on3 ranking algorithm seems kinda wonky. I still go by the 247 composite as I think it still does a better job of displaying the mixture of the various recruiting services
Same here

As an example: before Dijon Lee got bumped to 5-star by 247, he was already listed by On3 with a 5-star Industry Ranking, although ALL the recruiting services had him rated as a 4-star at that time, including On3! So, how could he be a 5-star.

What I like about On3 is that for each recruit they show the rating AND the ranking from all the recruiting services.
Alabama's average increased to 94,19 on the Composite rankings. Bama continues to have the highest average in the nation:

247 has updated their Composite ranking. Bama now has three 5-stars, with Russell moving up to #24 overall and earning his 5th star in the Composite ranking:

that just doesn't make much sense. Why would he decommit from usc and commit to us, to play another position? If he didn't want to be at USC he could commit to quite a few other blue bloods as a qb

Years ago, when Alabama had already secured a ridiculously loaded #1 recruiting class (class of 2021), Carlton predicted - out of the blue - that Bama would also land 5-star running back Camar Wheaton, who was then rated as the no. 1 RB in the country and a top 10 player nationally (no. 8, if memory serves). This came at a point when Wheaton was still committed elsewhere (Texas) and no recruiting insider or site had even hinted at interest from him in joining Bama, let alone a possible flip. Just about everyone on this board confronted Carlton with that and wanted to know where he got his intel from. However, there was not intel, as far as anyone of us could tell, it was just Carlton who insisted that it would happen. He essentially seemed to will Wheaton to sign with Alabama. In the end, Wheaton did decommit and in fact did sign to play for Bama. Unfortunately, he didn't pan out for us (injuries), but it was a remarkable recruiting story on this board.

This recruiting cycle, Carlton has started a running gag about linebackers, due to the seemingly heavy recruiting of LBs by DeBoer (with the 'oe' pronounced as in 'shoe', I'm Dutch) and his staff. So, Carlton's post about USC QB commit Julian Lewis having to switch positions if he wants to joins the Tide, is a joke about him having to move to linebacker.

Roll Tide!

He is a silent, but I don't think the staff sees him at QB.
