The Big 12 without UT and OU are basically a group of 5 conference.

We're not carving up ACC
FSU and UNC are doing it themselves w/o a landing spot yet
ESPN is also to blame as they gave ACC a ridiculous deal to force conference change

The ACC is a better brand than the Big 12. No team in the Big 12 (after Texas and Oklahoma leave) has the football tradition of Clemson, Florida State, or Miami. The ACC's basketball brand is top-notch, and academically it runs circles around the Big 12.
I don't know why people are so eager to see the college sports world collapse down to two mega-conferences. Be careful what you wish for...

Why do folks keep thinking ACC is getting carved up?
Big 6, ACC is on life support
Big 5, Big East is dead and ACC is stronger
Big 4, PAC is dead, B12 is G5's, B1G is still boring, ACC is SKRONG!
SEC is still #1 during all of this.

The B12 isn’t breaking away with the other 2. It’s funny you think you’re in the same league.
I think at the new contract .. 48 teams will split off into 8 divisions.
Everybody else will be in another league.
The Olympic sports and basketball will all go back to their home confs.

I listed the Blue bloods first, then just randomly listed the Big Time $$$ programs I could think of.. these are not the divisions , obviously. Some maybe out and others in; like Texas Tech for example.

This is a bizarre line of thought. The ACC schools happily signed their last deal, ESPN didn’t put a gun to their head. The schools believed the long Grant of rights would give the conference stability and prevent schools like Maryland from leaving and destabilizing the conference.

ACC is weird in that they as a whole have low fan support and viewership but put out some quality teams championship wise. And they have a lot of parity like the SEC. Only Virginia, Syracuse, and GT have sucked consistently. All others have had solid teams the past few years.
I don’t understand the lack of fan support and viewership outside of FSU and Clemson. Most schools are in heavily populated states with good media markets so it should be better than it is. Take Miami for example, their fan support is atrocious. The B1G sucks at everything. Their product on the field is terrible, they have no parity. It’s OSU, PSU, and Michigan. Everyone else is garbage but they all have great fan support and viewership on top of big media markets so the media pushes them.

I see the ACC getting picked apart as follows:
Notre Dame and Virginia to the B1G. Done at 20 schools.
Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech to the SEC. Done at 20 schools.
Louisville, Miami, NC State, and Pitt to the Big 12. Done at 20 schools.
Boston College, Cal, Duke, Georgia Tech, SMU, Stanford, Syracuse, Wake Forest will plunder the best of the G5 to get back to at least 12 schools.
There isn't going to be any further "breaking away" than this in the foreseeable future. But B1G and SEC schools will have little incentive to schedule challenging non-conference opponents if they are already playing grueling 9 or 10 game conference schedules. Honestly, the Big 12 will be fine. Clearly third (at least in football), but will still offer a lot of good match-ups on a weekly basis. Their top team(s) will still be in the postseason mix, but they will get fewer playoff bids than the B1G or SEC.

This is in large part because they have so many private schools. With Duke, Stanford, Wake Forest, SMU, Boston College, Syracuse, Miami, and Notre Dame (in all but football), that will be far more private institutions than any other conference. It's a double-edged sword--private schools tend to have strong academic reputations and alumni all over the country, but they struggle to dominate their local markets in the way that public schools do. As a result, their attendance numbers tend to lag. Private schools have a lot fewer "sidewalk fans" public flagships do. The average kid growing up in North Carolina is much more likely to root for UNC than for Duke or Wake.

I agree with this for the most part. However, I think UCF is probably in that number before Cal or Indiana just based on the location and size of the market. I mean, it’s the largest in person university in the country by enrollment. Especially if it’s football only. Going back to conferences for the other sports is the right call for logistics.
