One thing I like about college baseball is that you see teams like UC-Irvine, Coastal Carolina, Troy, and Dallas Baptist in the top 25. It's not just slight variations on the same 40 or so power schools that are money-whipping everybody with huge NIL budgets--at least not entirely, not yet. And to be clear, I am absolutely aware that LSU is at the forefront of that group trying to create a college sports oligarchy.

Anyway, just one reason to enjoy college baseball while it still has (some) quirky, not-entirely-corporatized elements. I hope some of these teams make some noise in the post-season--just not at LSU's expense. :geauxtigers:

who is saying this?

Last week, Todd Walker said during one of the LSU broadcasts (can't remember which one) that big-time college baseball--SEC or ACC--is absolutely comparable to AA. Now, his word is not gospel and he might be wrong, but he had a successful MLB career and watches a LOT of college baseball. So I take his opinion as at least plausible--more so than the random assertions of any of us on a message board.

Those saying that college baseball is comparable to the low minors at best are not accounting for changes in the sport over the last decade. This may have been true twenty or thirty years ago, but the combination of NIL money and the substantially reduced size of the MLB draft has narrowed the gap between the upper minors and big-time college baseball considerably. The one major advantage that minor-league baseball does still have vis-a-vis the college game is the presence of talent from Latin America.

Michigan is a 5 seed yet the AP poll has them ranked #14

I mean, #14 should equate to a 4 seed, so it's not THAT off. Nowhere near the discrepancy with Louisville.

Yes he does. And it is glorious.

Will be there. Have tickets for Saturday and Sunday games. It's true that they're pricey--especially Saturday!

Really? It seemed like the other teams had mostly white dudes to me.

So we should be ranked #1 this week? (Not that it means anything...)

I actually suspect that Tennessee will be #1. They are undefeated, and have been absolutely destroying a lot of teams. But, as you say, it really doesn't matter much at this point. We'll have our chance to match up with them in SEC play.

They said ~6,500 on the radio broadcast.

This really would be a remarkable development.

By the way, do you even know what the REC is?

Because the NFL is scripted. Refs will make it close

This is a bold take in a league where 9 of the 14 games last weekend were decided by double-digit margins, and where "America's Team" lost to the Lions 47-9.

Alabama beat Georgia. Not many other teams have a win of that caliber on their resume. Until and unless they lose another game, that alone will keep them in the top 10.

Right! Because if there's anywhere that's untainted by "leftist PC BS," it's colleges! :usa:

Has the league office ever come out publicly and admitted the refs messed up?

They will only do so if it is an indisputable, open-and-shut case (like giving a fifth down, failing to stop the clock, marking off the wrong number of yards on a penalty, etc.). If there is ANY element of a judgment call involved, they will stand by the officials.

Border Grill at Mandalay Bay has all-you-can-eat small plates from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sundays. Includes enchiladas, steak and eggs, spicy chicken and waffles, tamales, breakfast tacos, etc. Price is $44.99, and you can add all-you-can-drink mimosas, micheladas, and Bloody Marys for $27.99. Plus, that's about the closest hotel to walk to the stadium afterwards, so that works out well.

now cut out the Big 12 and ACC

This kind of thinking drives me crazy. A big part of the beauty of college athletics is the diversity of schools that compete. Why do some people keep wanting to reduce it to a smaller and smaller group of semi-professional behemoths and leave everyone else in the cold? It seems that some people basically want to see college football reduced down to about 20 schools (give or take):

Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Clemson, Miami, and Florida State.

Even as a fan of one of those schools, I want no part of that..
