Won’t win anything until he finds out that football is more than just offense.

The consensus from Oklahoma fans is that he never made a commitment to being physical and playing defense and left the program in way shittier shape than he found it.

It's probably more "discussable" on the MSB. But hey, let's talk Prime at Colorado in here as well. Not like the admin are paying attention.

I was watching the highlights from their game and it’s not that USC doesn’t have some talented players but they look soft AF and like every Riley team I’ve ever watched play. I don’t think they’re top 10 at all and I say this knowing that we shouldn’t be ranked going into the season.

USC fans will eventually figure out that Riley's defensive 'philosophy' has nothing to do with stopping offenses.

It has nothing to do with sacks.
It has nothing to do with tackling.
It has nothing to do with getting off the field on 3rd downs.
It has nothing to do with run defense.
It has nothing to do with passing defense.
It doesn't teach players any technique whatsoever.

So has he not figured it out they he can simply leave the defense alone to a highly qualified Sc that will take the D over?

A major part of why Tulane was able to come back and beat USC was b/c his stupid arse refused to take the foot off the gas and run clock until it was too late. He did that crap at OU too. He's never going to win it all until he learns you can't go full bore all game long.

Riley is a good coach, won’t win it all because zero commitment to defense (as evidenced by retaining Alex Grinch), but should be a perennial playoff team going forward.

OU fans have the redass about how he left, and I can’t blame them. I wouldn’t listen to most of their assessments of his ability though. There’s a very low chance that Venables will exceed Riley as a coach. Put another way, Riley is a better offensive coach than Venables is a defensive coach, recruiting is a push, and overall program management is TBD.

He was being held back at Oklahoma. USC will be fine.

This off season move (and non move) tells you all you need to know about his defense:

“Lincoln Riley brought in Kliff Kingsbury for whatever reason, when Gary Patterson and Bo Pelini are available.”

CW makes LR. Once he leaves this year he has to replace him heading into B10. CW will be drafted #1. But to give up 28 to a G5 team who ranked close to bottom in offense last year is telling. Game only opened up in 2nd half after SJS got tired with no depth.

He's not a builder of programs. He's perfect for USC - right up until he leaves USC for the next thing. He's fools gold.

Again, perfect for USC. Right up until he leaves. Absolutely perfect for LA.

Several similar posts. I was telling my friend they have talent but they don’t have that ‘it’ factor. By it factor I mean that they have a scare factor and you worry about playing against them. I’m not saying Texas would beat them or even a certain percentage of time but I’d sure as hell play them versus almost any of the top tier teams from the SEC, B1G, ACC…Maybe it’s lack of physicality, lack of discipline, football IQ, or some kind of combination of that but that’s what I see with this team.

All I can say is Zach Branch is living up to the hype. Wish he came to the SEC.

He will consistently win 10 games at USC until this pressure gets hit and he will bolt to the NFL

The guy couldn't put a defense on the field if his life depended on it. And he's going to the B1G next year.

Not sure about that... but i can tell you, he's not an SEC coach. Try the MSB with this topic.
