In my attempts to educate SEC fans about Oklahoma I must weigh in on how Oklahoma fits into the picture.
In the eastern 1/3 of Oklahoma we have legit hillbillies as the Ozarks and Ouachitas lapping over from Arkansas.
The next quarter of the state has a category that has sub categories in both the "redneck" and "white trash" columns.
This part of Oklahoma is a scrub forest known as "The Cross timbers". The people who live there "in the sticks" are known as "Backwoods country f****s". Other SEC states certainly have these as well.
Western Oklahoma is mostly made of a redneck known as the "dirt farmer".

Rednecks originated in West Virginia in the Coal Wars between the local miners and the carpetbagging Yankee overlords. They got way past throwing knucks at the local Sonic as I think the mine owners hired the Pinkerton's to fight for them and it went to a shooting affair. I think it got so bad machine guns were used and the government had to step in and send troops.
One of the primary battlefields was a rough mountain with lots of foliage. The locals resorted to wearing red bandanas on their necks to distinguish them from the hired goons.
Redneck = WV miner
Hillbilly = WV local
White Trash = Jessco White and his kin now living in WV

I remember watching a documentary on the origins of the redneck and it had nothing to do with the rednecks of today and more to do with the WV coal miners wearing something red around the neck.
For some reason it was hijacked to mean something else.

You can still be a redneck and be wealthy. That's the difference between white trash and rednecks - money. White trash people like to act like they're from the hood and dress like thugs. That's what comes to my mind when I hear "white trash".

Now we must also consider the more universal description of generalized "low life" as well here. We have a lot of that. To worldly to be rednecks or white trash.
