The conference is too big to conserve all rivalries.
Maybe we can play Alabama and Georgia some years as non conference games.

Auburn and UGA want to keep the rivalry. Bama does not want to keep the rivalry with Tenn.

I am betting Auburn fans wouldn't mind discontinuing this annual beat down

No shite mistaken. Nobody thinks otherwise.

Then why did both vote against 9 games?
Posted on 6/7/23 at 3:25 pm to mistaken4193
One is the longest rivalry in the entire south now , not just the Deep South.. the other is 22nd in the south , 9th in the conf, and 2nd longest to both Bama and Tenn.

Really, so are you saying Bama wants their top 3 to be Auburn, LSU and Miss. State and give up TENN.
That might be why TENN did not vote for the 9 game schedule. But even then, TENN could align with the definite no votes among the 2nd tier teams in the league (Vandy, UK, Arkansas, SCAR, Ole Miss and Miss. State) and assuming that Auburn and Alabama will vote with the 5 9 game schools (LSU, Texas A&M, UGA, MIZZOU and Florida) and OU/TX that gets you to a 9-7 vote for the 9 game schedule.
Based on Saban's public comments, my understanding is he does not want TENN, LSU and Auburn as his 3 but that LSU would be the one to go. So while the old school Alabama fans view TENN and Auburn as the top 2 rivals (and they are correct), you seem to be suggesting that Saban views Auburn and LSU as his top 2 rivals.

Bama/UT has been the much more intense rivalry historically. And if your reason for getting rid of Bama/UT is because it’s been 1 sided the last 20 years well guess what Auburn/UGA has been just as one sided.
UGA is +5 in the win column over AU.
Bama is +19 over UT.
For a team UGA plays regularly (east opponents, AU and GT), Auburn is one of UGA's closest series.
+4 vs UT
+6 vs AU
+10 vs UF
+10 vs Mizzou
+29 vs GT
+35 vs SC
+40 vs Vandy
+50 vs UK
And we've played Auburn twice as much as Tennessee.
UGA/AU and Bama/UT both deserve to be kept. But UGA/AU is a more competitive series.

This is all about money anyway.

The money hungry fools that run this conference are on the verge of throwing something special away. It’s funny how I realize that I appreciate what we have with Alabama when the stupid arse conference tries to destroy it

It's the upper 1/2 (Ala., Aub., Fl., UGA, LSU, Ok., Tx., & TA&M) & lower 1/2 (Ark., Kent., Miss., Mizz., MSU, SC, Tn., & Vandy).
Each team gets 2 from their group & 1 from the other.
So...Ala. got Aub. (Upper 1/2 & IB rivalry), Tn. (Lower 1/2 & TSIO rivalry), & needs another Upper 1/2 team. Can't be Ala., Aub., UGA (gets Aub. & Fl.), nor Tx. (gets Ok. & TA&M); they don't want LSU; so has to be Fl., Ok., or TA&M.
OR is the Tide complaining that Tn. is tougher than other Lower 1/2 schools? ***IF this IS the issue, the SEC WON'T drop TSIO!

Ala./Aub. - Iron Bowl
Ala./Tn. - Third Sat. In Oct.
Those 2 games are annual rivalries, so we know those WON'T be dropped.

Tennesse is a "lower half" school? UGA is "upper half"?
UGA is like the Israelites. You wander in the wilderness for 40 years and found the promised land. Like the Israelites, you will now disappear for 2000 years.

LMAO!
This is the exact same thing folks on here said after the '21 season.
Speaking of wandering in wilderness,UT has a grand total of ONE NC in the last
70 years and that was due to Clint Stoerner and one of the flukiest plays in the history of flukes.

You can be pissed at your own coach for that one. He is the one that cried when he heard LSU, Auburn, UT was a possibility.

I agree that both should stay.
If we abandon traditional rivalries, it is just another step towards making college football the NFL lite.
